Writing should: Inspire, Give hope, Entertain , Inform, or bring pleasure to the reader.
I fail to see any of these functions in your writiing.
You have spent today threatening, calling names and attempting to teach that which you do not know and clearly have not mastered.
Why not give it a rest? I would if I were you. You would no doubt be much happier if you could look back on a day of achievemnts. |

| I'm guessing that if Dick had read these remarks, he would not have used the word, "Tank" instead of "Truck". |

Dick Stodghill wrote about WW2 for friends killed in combat, not to shine a light on himself. He understood, as all those in all areas of the war knew…those who had not seen it, would never understand it. Stodghill insisted there be no funeral service, not a standard obituary, to mark his death.
Some on this forum keep making remark to what Stodghill…would have said. Let the man rest as he had insisted. Stop putting words into his mouth. The only people who have that right, are those who share what he had seen in war. Abe, you received the National Defense Medal…given to those never in a combat zone.
RARA-AVIS Archives: RARA-AVIS: Re: Dick Stodghill, RIP I was very sad to hear of Dick's death. Going back three decades, we shared a few conversations at Edgar Awards dinners and (IIRC) at least one Bouchercon...perhaps ...www. miskatonic.org/rara-avis/archives/200911/0188.html - CachedFrom RARA-AVIS:
To read Stodghill's book, to know exactly what he and his buddies who made it through the war survived, tells you why he was still wearing that special ring when the end came, and why never, for a single day in the intervening years, did those memories leave his mind. That may explain why he insisted there be no funeral service, nor a standard obituary, to mark his death.

| Dear Dick did not want a service because it had been denied to so many who, in turn, were denied the life that he had led. |

| Now he's telling me what medal I got. That's news to me.
Dick was and is special to me. I like his writing and humor. He was kind and could be tough when the situation called for it. Dick fought in a war. I only experienced a war.
The link that Alice posted explains much about the character making so much noise. |

| Abe, you posted a picture of you in your air force uniform…you were wearing the National Defense Medal. That was given to those who were not in a war zone during time of war.
It matters not to me.
I expressed my opinion of you in a PM. You chose to express yours about me on the forum.
Alice expressed her opinion about me on the forum…thus I expressed mine about her on a forum.
I do not believe it right to put your words into the mouth of someone respected, who is dead.

| I will stand by my remarks. Not the spelling though!
As far as PublishAmerica goes they got my book published--it has helped a lot of people and I don't have to put excerpts of it about to teach others how to write...That was hardly the purpose of the book.
PA may not be the best publisher, but they are better than none. Dick and Lane used them too.

| RUBBISH! Complete and total rubbish. Why not begin with the truth, then stir in some kindness?
Just an idea? Such a diatribe only reflects poorly on yourself.
Why hang around people you loathe so much?
Go where you like the atmostphere. I like it here, so do the others.

| I am haunted. The example love story given to Ann, was incomprehensible to me. Was anyone thrilled with it?
Would you pay money for a book like that?
Just very curious, as usual. |

| Since Publish America was brought up, and I'm not doing anything better, I'll add my two cents. I have to hand it to PA with their Facebook efforts. They've collected over 4,500 "likes" in a very short time, partly due to two contests where they gave away a mere $200 in return for people bringing them those "likes." And they're now generating income by charging people for a blurb on that same page. LOL! They're good. And meanwhile, the handful at AW keeps grinding away, every prophecy they make ("PA made a big mistake by going on FB! It's so open!") falling flat. The fired PA worker there particularly intrigues me. Man, they must have had two security guards escort her out, THROW her on the pavement, and toss her belongings on top of her while she was still face-down on the concrete. I can't imagine why else she, a non-author, sits there on a writer's site seething and raging against them all these years. Doesn't her current job keep her too busy for that? Does she HAVE a current job? PA is providing a service. They publish the unpublishable, and are now selling the publicity that they've always told their authors to go out and do themselves. They've got tons of authors, employee lots of people ...they may be rude, prickly, and not terribly honest, but in the great balance of things, they're providing more of a service than their detractors do.

| I am upset Carol wrote a Cuban Missile Crisis book which should have gone to Publish America. She was too discouraged by the anti-PublishAmerica bunch to go back to them. A good book was lost. Her husband's platoon would have loved it.
This snobbishness concerning publishers needs to stop. Shelagh did a great job with my book,
She did better than great--fantastic! |

| Well, in all fairness, Carol's decision was her own. She wanted, and was looking for, a commercial publisher. I'm sure she knew about CreateSpace, Lulu, etc., if she really wanted it out there. But I agree, her husband's platoon and their spouses would probably have liked it. |
