When a writer gets feedback from a reader.

Today I had a letter through the post from a school teacher who has read my book. He says "Ive read it -it's really exciting and every chapter seems to have a twist. When the year six teacher here has read Joshua Bean she'll get her children to write some reviews,which will be great to read."
That to me is exciting and I can't wait to read the kids comments.

I have not looked at the site for months so it's nice to see.

It's only a small thing but when you get just a little genuine feedback it makes all the hard work seem so worthwhile .

Very good, dmondeo. I can imagine how pleased you are. Feedback is always interesting and sometimes hard to figure out. The first I had from a piece of fiction came from a reader who wanted to know how the villain went from having dark hair to being bald in just two pages. I replied, "It just shows what a life of crime can do to a man."
The response from newspaper stories and columns is puzzling. For me there was very little from serious matters but sometimes a tremendous amount from the frivolous. I once printed a letter from a reader that mentioned Cloverine salve. I wrote that I had never heard of it and was bombarded with letters telling me about it. Then I received a tin from the manufacturer in Tyrone, Pa. Then I received another tin from a company in the far west along with a letter saying they made the original Cloverine salve. But a story spread across the top of Page 1 exposing shady practices in the county assessor's office resulted in - nothing.

I guess that means you get nothing for two tins of Cloverine Salve. At least your prepared for any nasty burns you could get from lighting your pipe. Not that you are ever likely to get any!
