PostSubject: Re: PA BOOK PRICES   PA BOOK PRICES - Page 2 EmptyFri Sep 25, 2009 4:40 pm

Since I have a new email in 2007, PA does not contact me. I wrote 6 times about it, no one cared and I do not get a single email from them. I do get my check every year, which is small, but I still get one. I tried one time to have an ebook on Lulu and they told me to cease and desist and Lulu took my e book off. I do not know how Joe has his rights. I think my contract is up in 2012.

When my contract is up, I will talk with Shelagh as my next publisher. I consider she is ten times the smart of PA and has a lot more heart.

So, Alice, what is my job in the new Co? I do not speak. I shake too much.

Love,
Betty

Betty... Very Happy

I wrote PA about a year or so ago and asked
for my electronic rights and they gave it to me, I even
have a copy of the e mail, just in case that person is gone
which I've heard many times is the case. I would try again.
I think Shelagh can tell us how she got hers from them ..

Cheers..Joe... PA BOOK PRICES - Page 2 94519

Woofer is welcome to come too.

Dick can bnng Maisie and Marie can bring Lamby and her cat.
E.Don's dogs are welcome.
Betty could you also be in charge of the animals?

We want them well-cared for.

After reading some of these posts I checked my PA contract again and all they own are the rights to print books. Other contracts may vary, of course.
At one time there was a discussion about adding Amazon's "Look Inside" feature to a PA book. I just went ahead and did it a year or more ago. Check and you will see many PA books have that feature.
Why start a publishing company when Shelagh and Sue already have their own? I mentioned it to Maisie. She yawned and went to sleep.

If you start the new company and Betty is in charge of the pets while we work, please include my little red bellied parrot, Sport. Her enole friend no longer comes to call, and I think she misses her friend.

There are a group of talented people here. I think the idea of collaboration is a good one.

Since I have been traveling, I've discovered the value of "Gift Store Books." I talked to a woman in a gift store the other day who said they do well, books about the area as well as short stories and poetry. And there are gift stores not only in towns but at museums. My fairy tale book has sold in a coffee shop near-by. I think its bright cover attracts readers.

I think self-publishing is all right, but working with a small publisher and collaborating with someone else is even better. There are many talents needed for successful publishing. We agree PA is lacking in a few areas.

I guess our publishing company is dead in the water. Our Advisor does not like it.

I will procure generous severance packages for you all and you are free to follow your own ways.

Thank you for your loyal services.

As for me --no more book purchases and no more self-promotion.

I am through. The money will be donated to VM foundation.

The book has sold enough copies to satisfy me. If PA wants more sales they can worry about it.

The game is over.

I feel the same way about my book, Alice. It is obvious to me that, unless I give away signed copies of my books, there is very little interest from the buying public. It isn't anything to do with price; Mr. Planemaker's Flying Machine is available on Lulu.com at £6.20 ($8.71) but I have bought most of the copies and given them away. I have learned a great deal about the publishing business but I have sold very few books.

I know what you mean. Perhaps getting the rights back from PA and listing with a small press? They do help with promotion a bit more than PA. They don't press their authors to buy books. Or non-stop sending the manuscript to agents until you are lucky and hit one. I told my mom who was trying to collect on a bad debt to look at it as a bonus if she collected anything rather than being determined to collect it all and being frustrated.

I doubt I'd do much better anywhere else. I just think books are not where the money is.

I am not mad at PA.

They have too many books to market. Too many authors who don't even have a clue how to write.

We have to realize that even if our books were given away--many folks don't want to read a book, any book, so why buy ours?

It's all in the name recognition. I have to write; I can't help it. The promotion just follows.

I have a friend with lots of connections. He won't use them to help me. It would only take his handing my book to one. He won't do it until I have a "real" publisher and my books are on the shelves at brick and morter stores. Then, I won't need him.

L&L Dreamspell is a "real" publisher, but it's not MacMillan.....

He sounds like a better enemy than a friend. You really do not need him.

As you drown, he yells, "Swim."

He is a competitor. We have to watch out for people--not all are honest.

9/27/2009

As far as I'm concerned I have read many a author
from PA and there are some out there and many are here
who are good writers and they have a story to tell, that
to me what's important. I know of a PA author who is an
artist, writes poetry, she wrote: " Suddenly A Light Shines."
I became friends with her, to my greatest shock I found out
she's blind ! She takes her grandson to school everyday
even in severe storms ( She lives in Colorado ) I admire
her greatly, my physical problems are nothing compared
to her being blind. I will tell you something else all the
authors here are great story tellers and writers, I haven't
read Alice's book yet but from all the stuff I read I admire
her she's a great lady. Carol , Dick, Shelagh, D.K. Cristi
and a few others I haven't mentioned have stories to tell
and I do know they are great writers. I only wish people
would read more and my greatest wish is for children to
open their minds to reading and become fascinated by the
stories they read and not watch the T.V........

Cheers..Joe

Joe,

I agree. Very nice post.

It takes many hours of a person's time to read a book. If someone has taken the time to read what I have written, I honor them and am grateful to them. I hope I have given them something worth while at the end of that time they spent with my writing.

'Birds of a feather flock together."

I think the best PA authors are here. I didn't mean to put anyone down.
