| I went away for a few hours, and come back to find out that apparently there are some topics that our moderator doesn't want anyone to discuss. And not even an explanation. Can't say I'm surprised. |

| Dear E. Don, I got an email that the postings breached someone's copyright and there was complaint about it and so it was removed. I do not think it had anything to do with the topic per se, it was removed to prevent more trouble with the copyrighted stuff and, er, person.
Love, Betty |

| E.Don,
I got an email that said the thread had been removed because a guest posted copywrited material, not because of anythng a member of the forum had posted.
I am sorry I began the thread, sorry that I watched PBS and sorry that I ever heard of Hitler and Stalin.
I have no vested interest in how many Jewsih folks were killed nor how many non-Jewish people were killed. Too many were killed to suit me.
I am personally thankful the thead is gone, it was only generating ill-will, we do not need that. |

| I didn't get the email but read the copyright material and it was not appropriate.
Notice my new avatar. I decided to be younger like Ann and Betty, but I had to keep my husband in the picture.
We were such a cute couple and were ready to go to the Marine Corps Ball in some year long ago.

| I agree that the topic was not what we usually discuss here, and that I don't really care that the thread is gone. I know next to nothing about that time period, so I was in over my head anyway. But I wonder why, if the problem was one post with some copyrighted material, that that one post couldn't have been deleted rather than the entire thread. Oh well, better off without it. |

| E.Don, We are much better of without it. We had people barely able to write and spell telliing off other folks. It was absurd! |

| Alice,
You are kind of cute yourself.
It was a very long post about writing and forums and actually was repeated and was someone else's material, way overboard on copyright material, not even really related to the topic.
No one missed much.
I went to a LaCrosse game, and really wonder why anyone thinks it is a good idea to put four foot long sticks with baskets on the ends in the hands of high school boys and let them out on a soccer field. It is a frightening but fast moving sport, and no one got hurt, not even the spectators.

| I think, Don, on these type of forums that just one post can't be deleted; that the whole thread has to be deleted. I could be wrong though, but that was my understanding. |

| Carol, your new avatar is great. Alice, you are liable to make Sophie jealous with yours! I saw the thread, but have no idea where it lead. Like many others here, I am no historian, so did not even notice it was gone! |

| The copyright material was taken from my website. I reported it. My thinking was: only the copyright material would be removed. I was sorry to see the thread removed. It is a subject that had many views we can all learn from. One point stood out to me...some members believe in their view to a point that they dug their heels in. Others started questing why those questioning world excepted views were being told to shut up. (not on the thread, but in many parts of the world.) I think it was a good thread. It went from, "I'm right and you are wrong," to some members asking, "okay, lets prove things out." Reasoning is a wonderful thing for writers. After all, what we write, the world believes. |

| The problem the discussion had was that many of the points were unprovable and needed to be accepted as unprovable.
And there were experiences that overroad any importance in finding an exact number.
My autistic grandson is an expert on World War II. He reads book after book, but those numbers would have no importance to him, because as he says, "I don't count." He is a savant who reads and remembers all he reads but avoids numbers and counting. He just knows bad things happened and could list them for you along with the names of Hitler's generals, his brother's name, his birthplace, whatever. I enjoy the discussions with Mitchell more than I did that one. And no, I don't try to push any point on him. There is no point because he has read far more than I have. He wouldn't try to convince me either. I do share my experiences and he says he'd like to go to Europe to see some of the places, and if I was ten years younger, we'd do it.
Enough of that discussion.
Back to LaCrosse. Most of the boys' hockey team plays LaCrosse in the off season. Someone watching the game said, "Comparing LaCrosse to boys hockey is like comparing men's hockey to girls tennis."
Those on the girls hockey team play soccer.

And there were experiences that overroad any importance in finding an exact number. Actually, the problem was not that there were unprovable points, but that no one could agree on which of the points were the unprovable ones. And to say numbers don't count sounds good, but I don't think there are very many people who would agree on that point. I will not go back into that topic, but I will say that had the number been 10 people dead or 20 people dead and not 6 million people dead, we'd never have been talking about it in the first place. |

| "They also serve who sit and wait." I don't know who said that, don't have time to look it up, but it is absolutely right. |

| Here you go, Marie.

Angel of Mercy
It was near the break of day, as she watched the blue and gray Advancing through the smoke and dust and noise No soldier there could be ignored, for above the cannon roar, She could hear the prayers of so many weary boys Of three thousand brave young men, few would live to fight again And the dawn would find so many lying still Then she heard the battle cry, nothing left but fight and die And she watched the blood red sun climb o’er the hill.
She walked slowly through the field, and now and then she’d stop and kneel On the ground close by some dying soldier’s side. She’d shed a single tear, then she’d whisper in his ear Son I’ll tell your mother, wife, or daughter how you died. I’ll say the end came fast and the pain was quickly past And I’ll tell them that your death was not in vain Then she’d softly close his eyes, touch his face and then she’d rise And kneel beside the next young man and start again.

We have to clean up the blood and take care of the wounded. And cook. |

| You can say that again, and applies to many situations.
But not the "cook" part.
This discussion is going so fast I can't keep up. I'm taking a coffee break.

| Archie Bunker (all in the family) made the statement,"There are no women in Heaven." When called on to explain, he replied, "It says it right here in the good book...And a silence fell in heaven." Women see no humor in that...but I love it. |

| E. Don Harpe--very beautiful poem . Love the imagery you painted. I saw the email message as well but it did not specify which one. I didn't see or post in that topic so I'm kind of thankful for this thread since it shed some light on the email. One thing I've learned from another forum where I moderated is that certain topics just can't be, so I understand why it had to go. |
