Oh all right! Beets are one thing, their tops are quite another.

Did anyone enjoy beet tops? I did not like them, still do not and never see them served in a restaurant.

Thank Heavens for that large favor!

Are beet greens anything like collards?

All those dark green things are on my "do not eat" list for a drug I am on. Darn, I can't eat any of those, and I know I haven't had beet greens or collards. Kale is another on my list and I've never had that either.

My husband likes all those strange green veggies.

Carol,

I wish it were not that way. Think of something better to look forward to than eating these disgusting things though.

Don't think of it as " Can't eat--think "Lucky me I don't need to eat those nasty beet tops."

Are you on this drug forever?

I hope not. I think just until March. At first I didn't think I could eat salads, anything green isn't good. I couldn't stand it and starting eating salads and feel lots better. I guess as long as you eat it a lot it is all right. This is so confusing.

Carol,
often the body will tell you what it wants. With all the flip-flop on what to eat and what not to eat it often comes down to common sense. Instinct will cause animals to eat certain foods when they are sick and I think our own instincts should be followed more often.
I am puzzled however why pregnant women like to eat dill pickles. Of course I'm puzzled at a lot of things women do.

Abe,

I never liked to eat dill pickles. I felt wonderful when I was pregnant.

Well, Abe, the women here can answer any puzzles you might have, in a very logical way of course.

Abe I don't need to be pregnant to eat dill pickles, I eat them all the time. There are other oddball things about me, but you probably already knew that.

However, following Carol's idea about being logical...pickles contain a lot of salt. People often crave salt when in fact they do not actually need salt, but they are dehydrated or at least very thirsty. (People think that I'm weird when I tell them that, but try it next time you are craving salt.) I think that means that pregnant women who crave dill pickles are probably just very thirsty and think they would rather eat pickles. pirate

My wife spent the first half of her pregnancy craving (and devouring)
egg rolls. The last half was beef jerky. We even began making our own
and could barely keep up with the demand! I guess that it was the
protein. I thought at one time that I should hide my belts. A little
salt, some peppercorns...

I ate everything I could see. or smell. Yum, yum--the doctor hated me.

I was perfect in blood pressure etc.,

Had a 10' 5 " 22.5 nch long boy in under six hours. I should write a book on how to feel great when you are pregnant.

Everyone could hate me then. What an opportunity.

LOL, Alice! My wife has many health problems - some requiring daily
medication that she had to stop while she was pregnant. I have never
seen her healthier (or happier) during that time. Somehow her body
liked being pregnant. Wonder what that was about?

I would have a hard time living without greens, especially collards, mustard, and turnip greens. I have a friend who came to Texas from Buffalo, NY. She says southerners eat turnips backwards.

About the pickles. I had a great uncle who developed diabetes as he grew older. His doctor told him "no alcohol," but added that he could occasionally drink a little vodka if he ate a dill pickle along with it. He lived in a dry county, so the occasions generally occurred when he came to visit my mom and her brothers. I wonder if the olive in my "occasional" martini serves the same purpose?

Alj,
I like that. The next time someone asks me if I had my "greens" today, I'll just tell them I had it with my vodka.

Brew I have seen that often too. Some women find it so much easier to have babies than others do. I was very lucky that way -- I had two wonderful pregnancies.

It was the deliveries that were tough No More News--Please! - Page 3 343621

I think I might just have to try the vodka trick...

I was pregnant five times and had six kids. The first were twins and I wasn't even prepared for one. They came a month early in a small town in Texas where my husband was stationed as a student jet pilot, the first married pilot in training to be sent there. Up to that point all the married pilot trainees were sent to another town, but this town felt they were being cheated economically.

So I saw a doctor one time. He went on vacation for Thanksgiving and I went in the very tiny hospital. I had no friends or family within many miles and hadn't a clue about much of anything. When the twins were delivered, it was with a doctor I had never met who was in his street clothes and had invited my husband to come and watch in the days when this never happened.

But miraculously they were all right, although they had to be taken to a larger hospital in Corpus Christi, having a few non life-threatening problems.

My mother came down and I came home from the hospital. I was exhausted and thought about having two babies to take care of, even with help. Soon after I got home, the doctor in Corpus Christi called and said we could come get the babies. My mother and husband were ecstatic, and I was not. I had kind of hoped for a little rest before tackling this big responsibilty. I never got that rest for about twenty years!!!

Love, Carol

Carol,

You are amazing! lol! lol! lol!

I don't want to get on my high horse, but why was the doctor in his street clothes?

It amazed me how a woman could be in the hospital hours before a birth and there was always a mad dash to get her in the delivery room.
They have the doors banging on your feet and go into fits because you are having a baby.

Hello, you came to the hospital in labor, why can't the doctor get a scrub suit on and be ready?

Too easy, I guess. flower flower flower

Please, Ann, let's not mention such things as collard greens and turnips. If you actually eat stuff like that I'm glad you have those martinis to offset the damage. I don't know if the olive helps, but the gin will cure what ails you. I just hope you aren't talking about that sinful concoction, a vodka martini.
Gin, Irish whisky and German beer have made me what I am today. Along with natural cavendish pipe tobacco, of course. Eating something now and then is OK, too, aside from those things discussed earlier.

Dick, one of the most frustrating features of the 21st century is having to specifically request a gin martini.

Well there-I did it again--watched some news and as usual am in quite a state.

The case of the mother who killed her adorable daughter--I would have known what to do with her a few years back.

Kill her--quickly mercifully-after all what woman would wish to have to wake up every morning knowing she had killed her own daughter?

Then I became a grandmother. Poor grandmother would be broken-hearted. Her grandchild gone and her daughter too.

Now I see why in Old Testament times they merely destroyed the entire family. Saved a lot of heartache.

As usual tired of the news--but addictd to it.

Alice, find the 'off' button. Quick!! It will drive you insane if you don't. My tv hasn't even been on today except to catch the weather, and they can't even decide if we'll just get wind and rain (already here!) or snow.
