Wizard of Words is gone.

I visted another forum where they were discussing it.

I am sorry for the members--they were soon to have a convention.

I was Vice President a couple of years ago, and was Secretary last year, but have not been an officer since then. I haven't heard anything from Rebecca. I know they cancelled the conference, and I knew Rebecca was looking for some help with the WOW web site and with keeping the organization going, but I didn't know it was this serious.

WOW has been a great organization for a lot of us for the past few years, and we've learned a lot there, as well as made some friends.

I'll see if I can find out anything, but right now I just don't know

Alice, do you have a link to the other forum that was discussing this?

I received an email from Becca just a few days ago (9/26/09)
telling us of a new forum. It was kinda confusing in that I didn't know
if she meant the actual board or a new chat room. Here's the gist of
the email...
Quote :
RJBP now has a new Forum for authors to communicate between one another,
replacing the previous one. You can get to it through the CHAT
tab. Just re-register and start talkin'. Okay?

I made a post on the old WOW forum the same day.

The link is on Becca's publishing website (RJBP).

I posted at the new forum. It's cleancut and similar to this one. It is sponsored by RJB Publishing. A post said that WOW was over and done. A newsletter will be going to members with an explanation. I went to WOW and found instead a list of charter members and a note that WOW was dissolved.

I was a board member until it was dismantled. I am saddened by this turn of events as they have been a great organization. The conference was canceled because not enough people signed up to go. Rebecca stood to lose a great deal of money if we continued to try to go ahead with the conference and not enough people came, so that was why we did decide to cancel it. After that it seemed a lack of interest from members, or it could have been busy schedules, the economy, and just bad timing, who knows. All I know is that I for one will miss the organization, and really wanted to meet more people who were a part of it. I had planned on going to the Las Vegas conference and was going to go to the one next year in Florida.

I thought the conference I attended in Tampa was very well organized and efficient with excellent content and contacts. I was impressed and looking forward to another opportunity. The organizers of that conference did a great job.

I was also a member of WOW and have subsequently joined the new forum at RJ Buckley publishing under the name JoshBerry. Incidentally, I encourage everyone to purchase a copy of the 2009 WOW anthology. There were only two years published, 08 and 09, it could become a collector's item.

I agree, Charlie. I have a story in each of them about my Good Ol' Boys
characters. Wouldn't it be great to have copies signed by all the authors? Now that would be collectors items!

Brew, the Private Eye Writers of America has done that with its anthologies by circulating pages to all the contributors before the books are printed so the signatures are included. Then they send each writer a boxed hardcover. Very nice.

A friend of mine has a traveling book club. One member buys a book and writes their name in the cover after reading and mails it on to the next friend. Maybe something like that could get the signatures.
