| I recently read that Stephenie Meyer's inspiration for Twilight, her debut bestseller, was a dream she'd had just before starting the MS. It got me to thinking how many of us as writer's delve into the depths of our subconscious to seek inspiration for a story. I personally have not written anything, other than maybe doodling, that came from something I may have dreamt. So, how about you, have any of your stories started out like Mrs. Meyer's did. Incidentally, the info I reference above about her comes from her official website. Charlie |

| None of my stuff comes from dreams, though it does touch my deepest conflicts and joys. One way or another, I feel like I'm living the story.

| Charlile, years ago if I wrote about my dreams it would be considered banned material. Today I'm not sure it would have as much appeal.
I have never written a story based on a dream, however I have had thoughts while sleeping that have helped with an on-going story. I imagine that had more to do with my subconsious than simply a dream. Having something on one's mind when going to bed seems to trigger thoughts that can produce answers. The problem is that one must immediately get up and write it down. If you think you'll remember the insight in the morning, you will find that it has completely disappeared. |

| Sometimes my nightmares are the inspiration for episodes. They wake me up and I am forced to write them down. Literally. |

| Abe, some of that banned material might have sold really well.
Zada, I never remember my nightmares long enough to write them down.
Now, if I could hook some wires up to my head that would record my dreams, I might have something worth typing up and sending in to one spooky magazine or another.

| I dream almost every time I sleep, and many of them I write down. So far, I haven't based a book on any of them, but many of my short stories have their origin in a dream. A couple of them were so detailed that pretty much all I had to do was write down the words.
For me, it's a great source of material, however, I realize this may be why some of my work has such strange direction. |

| I had a nightmare once as a little girl (I think I was about six or seven) that was so upsetting I still remember it.
About ten years ago I had another awful nightmare and I have not forgotten that one either.
Even though my sister woke me this morning with a phone call, I clearly remember my "main" dream from last night. Sometimes I recall more than one dream.
My dreams are in color, detailed, and feel so very real much like real life. There aren't just images because I talk in them and have conversations with the other people in them. Although I have had those dreams where I just know I am dreaming, as well.
I plan to do NaNo again this year. The novel I plan to write during November will be based on a dream I had about a month ago.
So, to the original message of this thread, I say "yes". |
