I just ran a google search on Victor and discovered he teaches at Hofstra University, the location of the second Presidential debate on Long Island NY.

Hofstra is New York's largest private college

I miss him and hope he returns soon.

I sent an email to Victor and he answered. They came through the storm, but are dealing with gas shortages and utility problems.

He will return when things settle down.

Alice (and Ann),

I'm sorry to have zoned out for awhile. I responded to your personal message as soon as I received it but did not realize you had also posted here as I have not logged in in some time, mostly because of time constraints and for being under the weather in more ways than one.My family and I are fine--just inconvenienced along with everyone else, but much more fortunate than too many. We live a couple of miles from the North Shore of Long Island so were not hit by the devastation along the coast, especially the Southern coast of Long Island and, to a lesser extent, parts of NYC near the water. But about 90% of people on the Island were without power, most for a very extended period of time and too many are still awaiting the return of their utility services. Most neighbors, friends and colleagues were mostly without power upwards of ten days or more. My biggest headache was finding gas in very, very long gas lines when a gas station carried it at all. Things are getting back to normal and gas rationing by even/odd days ends tonight at midnight, but has not been a problem for days.

I'm still busy but will try to slowly get back to the pleasure of reading your words and putting my two cents in from time to time. I really appreciate your concern and apologize for not knowing you were trying to reach me. There are still a great many people hurting in my neck of the woods, but fewer every day and hope/relief is slowly making its way where it is needed, including efforts by my own university and colleagues to help our own.

I'll soon be back to annoying people as things get less hectic for me over the next weeks.

Regards to all and thank you both for your good wishes and concern.

Victor

Victor,
glad to hear you are safe and that you are coping with the problems. In times of troubles, people come together. From your post, I think you are experiencing that kind of community togetherness.

As for annoying people, sometimes it feels good to rattle some cages. We're ready to rumble when you are.

Thanks Shelagh, Joe and Abe,

I'll check in periodically as I continue to catch up. I'll even have a few Twinkies if I can find them before they're all gone to further annoy my doctor and turbo charge my normally over-caffeinated self. By the way, Joe, what will we eat when the dirty bomb/nuke/asteroid/earthquake/weaponized anthrax/zombie apocalypse hits now that the only food with no expiration date is no longer available? Surprised

No matter what our point of view, Twinkies bring us together. Somebody will make them in China and send them back to us.

Welcome back Victor; your words are missed. Sorry for the difficulties in New York - what a mess. My friend in Yonkers had no electricity for about a week but no damage.

Joe's post made me eat everything in sight, but I have not been able to quell the snack attack.

Dear Victor,

The perfect food is honey. It never spoils. It may turn into crystal sugar, but a little heat and it will melt back into the original liquid honey that the bee made. It needs no preservative, no refrigeration and has no expiration date. I love that.

Of course, people cannot live by honey alone.

Love,

Betty

Darned right, Betty. I LOVE honey. I bet it even goes well drizzled injudiciously over Twinkies and Devil Dogs. Thanks to Joe, I may never stop eating. And now, I hear the honey calling my name too . . . bounce

Actually, I drizzle honey over warm bread out of the oven (preferably crusty French or Italian, but rolls will do) all the time, and also over saltines (unsalted tops preferred). I don't have any peanut butter at the moment, but will buy some and try it over Wonder bread. I never have for some reason, but I can taste all that gooey goodness now! You guys are bad for my waist line. (I can see my own Alice with her inimitable "what am I going to do with you" smile/frown combination shaking her head in my mind's eye.)
