5 things to do everyday for success

As a guide, the list is good.
I'm a morning person and get things done early in the morning. Night people have a tough time getting started in the morning. They must find a program/routine that fits their lifestyle.

This is for success in WHAT exactly??
The reasons behind the suggestions are vague.

Here's the five things:

1. Wake up a half hour earlier to e-mail and tweet before my associates do.
j- How does this help me unless I am in a business where this is necessary. I rarely e-mail and tried tweeting, but it was a waste of time.

2. Read the headlines and watch the news.
j- That is almost impossible to NOT do. The news bombards us now-a-days. And except for interesting debate, how does this make one successful, unless one is in politics or business? I'm neither.

3. Send something to one person who can hire you or buy your
product--
j- This is fine, if you are in sales/marketing. Okay, yeah, I want to sell my books, but no one in my e-mail list, or Facebook account is a person who can hire me (truck driver?) and they all know about my books.

4. Touch base with an old friend or associate you haven't talked to
in ages. Ask how they are, what are they working on and ask or suggest
how you might help. You'll make their day.
j- It IS nice to keep in touch. This one is good.


5. Write a handwritten note to someone. Seriously.
j- This is a nice thing to do.

I am familiar with FastCompany magazine. I used to receive copies of it when I worked for American Airlines. So, I suppose these are tips for moving up in business.

But, I don't see how these tips help your everyday person be successful in life. Being successful in life isn't about competition with others, peddling your company's wares, or phony sincerity.

Success in life comes from growing as a person.

Well, FastCompany is a business mag, so I presume it was written for people wanting to move up in business. Not the "simple living" crowd who defines success very differently.

Today was another successful day.
I got up this morning, looked into the mirror and saw myself looking back. That was success.

Both of these men got to where they are with hard work. Mr. Gardner had a non-paying JOB (internship) that helped him eventually succeed in his career.

They became career successes. But they also grew into the person they aspired to be. And they both give back. They didn't so much compete with others, they challenged themselves.
