| Wow! I want one. I'm looking at Rustoleum's paint product that turns a formica counter top into an appearance of rock counter top - but I'd like to see one first. It saves all the carpentry... |

| Very nice Alice. What will be the first recipe produced in this new kitchen? |

| Oh, it is granite and quite indestructable. I am not going to worry about it . The original countertop was laminate and still looked great after 26 years. As to what we are eating--how funny! The answer--Nothing near as elegant as the kitchen. Low fat , low salt, no sugar. Ho hum! We are merely keeping up appearances. |

| LC,
What do you have? I said I would never have granite Then we got to looking into it and found it was more durable than Corian and cost about the same.

| Plastic laminate. My house is builder-grade everything. I've put little money in it besides finishing the basement (and even that was done cheaply, by a handyman I found in the paper). Maybe because I've had to spend so much money repairing it. So much wood rot for a house this age. I've also made travel a priority, and kids' activities. So not much left over for the house. It's basically just a place to keep my stuff. |

| I've spent a month away from home and realized how little I really need besides a place to cook, sleep and use my computer. The rest of the house is a waste and a money drain. |

| We have spent little in the past on our house, but felt it was time to upgrade. We have lived here for 26 years. |

That house will give you what you need -and not a bit more! lol Alice -we've been in our house for 15 years. I have no interest in the hassle of upgrading. I'd rather just move to a new one that has what I want. |

Alice, you hit on an important note about "home". We're all read those signs that say things like, "Home is where the heart is." That is partly true. I might add that home is where one feels safe and comfortable. Since we have moved so much in our lives, there was never a place we could call home. About the closest thing was when we visited my parents. It was a place that felt comfortable, in that everything remained in place. You could be thousands of miles away, close your eyes, and see everything in its place and take yourself there on a mental visit. My parents are dead. The house was sold. Where I live now, my kids (if you can call adults kids) feel this is home. My grand kids see it as something special to their grand parents. Their modern home in Virginia is no comparison. My home is not fancy, just a comfortable place to live. You don't have to be concerned about messing up the sofa if you sit on it. You can kick off your shoes, put your feet up or lie down wherever you wish. The way it looks today is not what it looked like when I bought it. I did most all the renovations myself. It was remodeled to suit our taste of living, even though that was somewhat restricted. It is home. It is not perfect, As an old house, to increase the size of a room or raise the height of a doorway was not possible without affecting the integrity of the structure or a major re-build. I love old things and appreciate how they were constructed. Leaving some things the way they were helps to retain the character of the original construction. It is our home. I don't think other people would feel as comfortable in it as we do. They have their own thoughts about comfort, space and the community in which they live. I have my own (my wife calls it my junk room). It is my downstairs room where I keep personal things. I have a wood stove in it and a sofa. In the winter, it is especially a cozy place to take a nap. When I want to be alone, I can close the door, flop down on the sofa and lay there undisturbed. My cat usually keeps me company, snuggling close and purring. |

| I'm kind of like a tree in some ways. I put down deep roots pretty quickly. Once I'm settled in to a place, I don't want to leave it.

| Abe and Ann,
You both have expressed my sentiments. We are just around the corner from the church, so we can walk there. The cops cruise by and the fire dept is near. Our neighbors are nice.
Our kids rooms double as offices and guest rooms. We have daybeds which turn into king size beds. I don't want to move. This house holds many happy memories. |

| hallo everybody! 'Home is where the heart is', can it say better, that all. I have lived nine years on six wheel, in my sweet movable home, sleeping on my own bed, among my things of my own and the books, plenty of book - all with me, only I ask .a bit of earth to stay for a while, piece of sky to see, and all that I have got, as everyone know the old age is wakeful and the early birth is not interested to find the worm but the fresh morning air and the nature around and see the white clouds sailing above and the births singing in threes, If a lad at age like me - stay in a sigle flat in a apartment block in some city to be sedentary citizen of some city it's will be end of life jut like taken a falcon into a cage. I will no be ready to wait my dead in a cage nor house but in the open air and wearing my booths. |
