Hazards of Cell phones Empty
PostSubject: Hazards of Cell phones   Hazards of Cell phones EmptyWed Jun 01, 2011 12:28 am

Saw a report on TV this morning about brain tumors resulting from the use of cell phones.
The producers of cell phones are fighting the report, as one would expect.
I’m waiting to hear about secondary hazards. Those who opposed smoking and the hazards of secondary smoke may find that there is a secondary hazard to cell phones. We know they offend others with noise pollution, but what about the radiation they emit?

Cell phones held against the head are dangerous. It is not only a hazard to loss of attention as with driving a car, but the penetration of radiation to the brain. Speaker phones can avoid that hazard; however the secondary noise is a big nuisance if not a hazard. Perhaps there will be a campaign against cell phones as there was with smoking.

I don't like cell phones. We have one for emergency use only. In fact, I don't like phones.

My close friend didn't like cell phones either; she always used mine. She always found me by calling me on mine. She now has a cell phone; but she won't take calls on it; claims it's for emergencies. After all, she doesn't like cell phones. Yet, she gave the number to select friends.

I am concerned about the hazards as I use mine for my only phone. I understand the smart phones are worse (which I have). At least in California and a few other states drivers cannot hold their phone. The craziness in Florida - every driver has a phone held at their head and many drive accordingly.

My techie son says they hold a coffee cup, eat and put on makeup....what's the difference?

The phone seems to take their concentration more.

I cannot imagine that any person has that much of interest to say or listen to. I think the cell phone is the adult pacifier....That is my major statement about the mental health of people worldwide. That fear of being alone and disconnected from the rest of the human race, not knowing what to do or think about when no one else is present or on lines.

The feeling of insecurity and loneness in the middle of a crowd must diminish a bit with the action of a finger selecting a friend and saying, "what you doing".

Remember those really big cell phones that came out first and the whole flap about the dangers of radiations? Maybe Fox News has run out of hysterical stories to air.

Love,
Betty

The use must have to do with our age. Remember Dick saying he hated the phone?

I used to love the phone. Now my friends can't hear and I have to yell. Easier to send an email.

Dear Alice,
Remember the old show, Father Knows Best? I think that was the one with Jane Wyatt. She wore high heels and nylons to do the cleaning of the bathroom, which you could only surmise she did because she had a pair of rubber gloves. Maybe I am senile and that was Leave it to Beaver. But, times have certainly changed for everyone, not just women.

That is a good thing.

I do not mind phones. I just do not answer them. I have caller id, and if it is 'Unknown' or 'not available' or 'ringing' I do not answer. That is my house phone.

My cell phone has been selected in a spam operation from Ohio. 216-number. I have looked it up on the internet, and the idea is that they call your cell number so many time and in the middle of the night that it is a real bother. They want you to subscribe to have your number removed.

I called my cell phone provider and they do not care a whit. They said, "Just don't answer."

Not one person cares about what to do about them.

Well, I do. But I have no idea how to stop them short of changing my number which involves everyone I know.

The truth is that there are asses all over this world. Perhaps they are something one lives with like dollar weed.

Love,
Betty

Hazards of Cell phones Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hazards of Cell phones   Hazards of Cell phones EmptyFri Jun 03, 2011 5:56 pm

I have never liked phones, either. I was never one to talk on the phone for prolonged periods of time. It was a long time before I got my first cellphone, and I used it even less than my land line.

Then, about three years ago, I started to see how much Lynn and Susan could do with their iphones. I began to think of it as a tiny pocket computer that might double as a phone.

By the time I gave in and got one, I was ready to make it my only phone, and had the land line cut off. And even so, I found a refurbished phone that was not the very latest version, so I have actually reduced my phone bill. I am actually even learning to type with my thumbs a little, with practice, although it will never replace a real keyboard. But it is my camera, my organizer, my shopping list, my banking contact, my ereader - I have the Kindle, the Nook, Smashwords, and ibooks, all in the palm of my hand - for free.

The stuff about the dangers has been around a long time, and for someone who uses it constantly, and talks for hours at a time, it might be a problem, but I doubt that the smartphone concept, whatever the brand, will be going out any time soon.

Just me, but like I said, I don't talk on the phone much. I have different ringtones for all my friends and family members, so I know who is calling by the ring, and I know that when the harp is playing, there is no point in answering, because that ring is not assigned, and if it is important enough, whoever called will leave a message. But I do not text, well, OK, unless I get a text message from Susan, who likes texting, and then I only answer very briefly.
