| Speaking from a desk at the Vatican, the pope focused on the role of science and technology in solving problems on Earth and inspiring young people.

You can view the International Space Stationas as it orbits the Earth from your own back yard:

So bright a telescope is not at all necessary. |

| When you think about it, science and technology are providing us with the means connect with each other, to see each other's worlds up close and in detail, and to bring us closer together as one people.
The more advanced our technology, in many ways, the better the opportunity to sense the need for peace, and to find ways to achieve it.

| The pope needs to talk to his priests about their behaviour. The young people would be more inspired if less molested. |

| I happened to catch the interview. It was interesting. The most technologically advanced countries (widespread among the population) seem to be less ready to fight already. There's too much to lose and so much more to gain by cooperation and collaboration. |

| We need to expand our horizons for fresh inspiration. The world has shrunk to a smaller place since the advent of air travel and the ongonig technology boom. We need look no further than the moon in the short term: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7isvJpWtno I'd say the Bay of Rainbows is a place to spill some color onto! |

| I've always been fascinated by the moon - but I think it's more beautiful from a distance than actually on site. If I can't take an 8 hour flight to Europe, I'm afraid the moon is off the radar. |

I'd think that would be even MORE obvious from outer space. The "absurdity" of this fighting has been going on for millenia. I agree with Alice, address problems inside the church, maybe that will make a more tangible difference than worthless speeches. |

| Maybe it's just me, but I think that having the Pope reach out to technology and science is a positive step toward healing the split between science and religion. If it's just a gesture, it is a hopeful one, IMO.

| IMO you've hit the nail on the head, Ann. We're fortunate enough to be living through an age of science where people are less swayed by the traditional concept of a God as someone with grey hairs and a long beard. Nowadays a loud clap of thunder does not signify that the Gods are necessarily all that angry with us and they want to unleash their scourge unto us! |
