JUST ANNOUNCED: FEDERAL EMPLOYEES PAY FROZEN-2 YEARS

It was just announced that all Federal employees pay will be
frozen for two years, nothing said about congressman, senators,
president or vice-president. Now what's good for the goose is
good for the gander. I feel congressman, senators, President and
vice-president are federal employees and their salaries should be
cut in half, many of them are very wealthy, what is your opinion ?

That is a tough question. Definitely freezing their salary is a great idea, but cutting it in half might be a bit drastic.

They often maintain two homes and I wouldn't want their kids and spouses underfed or underhoused.

Many of them are millionaires, which is no longer wealthy. Their homes
may put them in that category.

Considering the job he has to do, the presidential salary of $400,000 a year doesn't seem like that much. And cutting it in half wouldn't be a particularly big help.

It's about time politicians realize they too have to give
up their perks, cut their salaries by 35% that's fair..

Those who voted to reduce the tax on the wealthy would be a better selection for tax increase. Just imagine what a 5% sur-tax on all the billionaires would produce.

Government employee salaries and benefits are far more generous than most comparable private sector ones. They get increases in good times but never decreases in bad times. They need their salaries and benefits slashed, not just frozen. Let them quit for those higher paying private sector jobs so many claim they can get. They're easily replaceable.

I think the President and Congress are paid fairly, though.

Sorry Congress and the higher archy are paid way too
much, they need to give up their perks and if their
multi millionaires they need to give it back, they don't
need it and stop all this money that's given to them
by companies to get what they want, they have to know
what it's like to live like a middle class person.....

Yes, we could give even more to Israel to support their rogue activities against Palestine and the 30% of their population on welfare. And to Afghanistan, to be spirited away in suitcases. Or to give government workers here higher salaries.

The rich already pay most of the taxes in this country. I've read that as much as 40% of this country doesn't pay income tax at all. In fact, many get the EIT (Earned Income Tax) reimbursement on tax they never even paid.

The rich already pay plenty to keep alive people here and abroad that should be allowed to die out with the Neanderthal already.

I agree with you ! The wealthy (LC) always scream
the loudest when it's the middle class who always get the
shaft ! If you add up all the different kinds of taxes we
already pay it would boggle the mind, now their talking about
adding a Value added Tax 6% on top of everything, that's how
Europe started and now some of them are 20% value added Tax !

A very unfortunate situation-- the rich hate the poor and the poor envy the rich.

I do agree with one politician who said we have to dump our
current tax system for one that has only two taxes, or I do
think we should dump the whole system which is corrupt and
have one fixed tax , 10% on everything except food, that
means getting rid of taxes on everything....And we have to
fight the value added tax their planning for next year !

Cut their wages I say. All the Government is doing is cutting benefits from those who need them. The rich get richer leaching off the poor.

Joe, where did you get your info about the freeze for two years on govt. wages? I know the President's Commission is going to make some hard recommendations. Was that one of them?

I just saw a great speech by a British politician saying
countries are falling one after the other, Ireland 13 billion loan,
he said Portugal is next then Spain. If these countries did like
England and kept their own currency and not get into the Euro
they would have been better off, I say they should go back to
their own currency before it's too late..

The European Union (common market) is one big scam.
The uk pays one of the highest membership fees while others pay considerably less.
If we quit europe our debt would reduce by billions and recovery may occur quicker. Trouble is many UK companies thrive on the Euro trade agreement which could be affected if we left the EU so they would loose business.
The single currency is also a big scam I hope we never join it as prices would rocket and we the poorer people would again suffer.

My understanding is that the wage freeze is a proposal that has yet to receive congressional approval. Therefore, if it goes into effect, it is the voice of the elected representatives that puts it there.

When President Obama came into office, he froze the wages of political appointees.

I have worked for both public and private organizations that froze wages for a year and did not provide the annual increase. In both cases, we survived. However, the leaders of the organizations at the very top did not change their compensation.

The President of the United States has a very low salary for his responsibilities. While perks make up for some of it, those perks are not greater and even less than corporate CEO's. I'm actually surprised that anyone with the ability to run a nation as complex as ours would choose to run. The private sector has much more to offer in terms of privacy and compensation.

Anyone who runs and becomes the President has my deepest sympathy. Thier life is over.

How on earth do they get up everyday and hear how horrible they are as they try to do what they promised they would do? The media circulates outright lies about them.

President Obama has a wonderful wife and children. They will never be this age again. If I were he, I would say, "Take this job and stuff it.. I am going to enjoy my life."

About federal employees: How about if they get to keep their current wage but are paid only for the hours they actually work?

That is a great idea! Now that would save us a lot.

Actually, it is not only government employees who don't put in a full day's work. Just as many government employees work their full load. People are who they are; if they lack integrity and work skills, that is a general trait and can be found anywhere. The industrious person can likewise be found anywhere.
