| I don't go out of my way to overly express it. "It" is part of me and becomes noticeable (at least to me) in everything I do and write. Some things appear overt: a recent review I posted for the novel "Noah's Wife" by T. K. Thorne. Others are less overt: the theme in my novel "The Sun Singer," for example. I don't force creativity or spirit by saying, what can I do to express it today. I let it happen and try to remain true to myself.

I dress weird. Haha. I wear tie dye, funky jewelry, flow-y skirts, boots/stiletto heels, and I often crimp my hair. Good thing I'm not a corporate type. |

Malcolm, I like how you say you let it happen. I know Ann is creative through cooking. Abe in music. Betty with her plants and animals. Alice in her Forever Christmas attitude. More answers would be great. I've got a few more questions. I'll bundle them together. Carol |

| Carol said, "I know Ann is creative through cooking."
That's true, I think, but it is part of being a creative homemaker. It isn't about spending a lot of money so much as finding color combinations and textures. I love muted earth colors, especially greens and taupes. I'm all about comfort, but I can wear, cook with, sit on, and sleep under colors that feel good. Jung says that the Feeling function isn't about emotion; it's about harmony and resonance. That's what creative homemaking is about. And it is spirit, I think, that helps create harmony and resonance. And all that together can create art. Now that I am retired, I can focus on my home again. I like that. Ann |

| My mother says that I'm artistic. As though it's some kind of affliction. I don't create much with art materials these days; I tend to use the computer: writing, designing, networking, blogging. Computing isn't an affliction; it's an addiction. |

| Shelagh, I see you as consistently bringing art into you computer projects. Especially in the way you use graphics, and write descriptions.

| I love your response Ann. Thanks.
Shelgh, hmm. Affliction or addiction? Good question. Are all addiction bad?
You certainly are creative on what you do Shelagh.

| Carol, I really don't know. If what I express falls into the criteria you mentioned, it is not done consciously. I am who I am. I write what I feel. Generally, I do what inspires me. How that is viewed by others is unknown. |

How that is viewed by others is unknown. Thanks Abe. When I was a counselor, I was required to write up interviews, treatment plans and progress notes. I didn't just write about difficulties, but stories. They were all stories about lives. Some were never read by anyone. Some by the state supervisor who came once a year and read some records to make sure we were keeping them as required for health care facilities of any kind. Some by the clients themselves, and some by others when the client gave permission. But none of that mattered. I wrote what I felt, what inspired me about those people. Most were never ever viewed and have either been shredded or are in locked files. But they were of value just the same. Carol |

Carol...
I know this sounds weird but when I write I like to write different books, I don't like being stuck in a little compartment , " He only writes science fiction, etc." I have written four different books......
1. " Is Your Father Black ?" 1950's inter-racial marriage 2. " Dusty " About an abandoned kitten and the boy who adopts him. 3. " Visions Of Freedom " Based on one man's desperation for freedom from communist Cuba 4. " Clara Layten - The Chelsea Murders " A murder mystery based in New York City
Right now I'm working on a new murder mystery based on my character Clara Layten, to be published in 2010. I have plans of doing a sequel to " Dusty" ..
Cheers...Joe |

| Carol, I think that education, training and experience influence the manner in which we live and conduct ourselves. Regardless of the subject, students do not benefit equally. Interpretation of what we hear or read and how it is applied varies with each person.
Some of us may have looked up to someone as a role model. No matter how hard we tried, we could never be exactly like them. They may influence our actions to a degree, however the fact that we are all unique prevents us from being an exact copy of anyone. Actors who portray real characters may do a superb job in their role, but will not duplicate the real character.
Who on this forum thinks they can duplicate Dick Stodghill? It’s impossible. One may try to emulate him, but cannot duplicate him. Hs life experience influenced his personality and the way he lived. He was unique.
There’s nothing wrong with self-improvement as long as it is one's unique self that is being improved. Be proud of who you are. You are special. |

| Thanks Abe.
I think I've told this story before, but one time I was training teens in helping skills at a school in northern Wisconsin. I had no idea who the kids would be as they had been selected by the principal of the high school. When I got there I discovered the captain of the football team, cheerleaders, student counsel members, children from foreign lands, quiet kids, and one small boy wearing a beret. We did a lot of getting to know each other activities. At the end I asked what each had gained. The captain of the football team said, "I got to really know and like this guy in the beret. Thanks for letting that happen." Two more different people in the same room, liking each other. Our uniqueness is what should drive us. The little guy in the beret would never be on the football team or the captain wear a beret, but they became friends.
Part of all of this is letting it happen. Like on this messageboard as we try to fill in the space left by a good friend and know none of us can do that, letting it happen will be what keeps this place a safe place for all creative people.

| Carol, This is a really neat topic. I believe creativity has such a vast range including music, writing, poetry, gardening, cooking, movie making, science, pseudoscience (e.g. astrology and palmistry), etc. However, I believe that it is in movies we find the greatest range of all creativities coming together and fusion of everything. Movies are fun things!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gynff9VzL3w ... but a lot of hard work too |
