What's the World Coming To?

Remember when Gabriel Heatter began his evening radio newscast by saying, "Ah, there's good news tonight"? No, you don't remember unless you've been to the county fair more than a few times because Gabe hit his peak during the years of World War II. As often as not his good news concerned a battle in which 10,000 men died or the bombing of a German city that claimed three times that many lives.
But reading a few newspapers from various countries this morning made me realize Gabriel would be beside himself with joy today. First was a story out of India which serves as a warning to husbands to watch their mouths. A bride of only a month was distressed when the man she married said another woman was more beautiful than her. She tied the brute to a chair, doused him with paraffin and struck a match. A date has not been set for the murder trial.
Some cops in Sierra Leone are upset because cobras and vipers have taken over their police station. They set fire to it but that didn't help so they've called out the army. It just shows that snakes don't care what kind of company they keep.
Right here in the States Cher's daughter Chastity is having a sex change so she'll be a man and no longer have to worry about being chaste.
It was England that provided the most shocking news. Not because golfer Nick Faldo is being knighted by the queen, no it's worse even than that. At that bastion of higher education, that center of knowledge and culture, Cambridge University, a sign has been posted reading DO NOT PARK YOU'RE CYCLE HERE.
It's true, I'm afraid, the world as we have known it is gone. We are rapidly regressing to the Stone Age and in another 50 years people will be living in caves. Then, at least, there no longer will be cause for octogenarians to say, "What's the world coming to?"

Dick, I believe there are already some folks who are living in caves in the interest of maintaining their personal freedom and safety.

At least when we're all back in the caves, the world will rid itself of Twitter, cell phones, "Entertainment Tonight," and the federal government.

I saw a program on this recently and still am a bit fuzzy on it. Apparently some women are almost men and some men are almost women. Hope that clears it up for you, Marie.

Unfortunately, there is a grey area. A young American woman, who was about to be married, visited her doctor to see if it would be possible for her to have a family because she had not started menstruating. When the lab report came back, it simply said XY. She asked the doctor for an explanation and was told that she was a man.

Clearly, she was a man, who had been raised as a girl. Unfortunately, she wanted to be a girl and she wanted to be a mother. Fixing her to become a father was not what she wanted. This is a clinical problem and not a psychological one.

Women who are XX should not be allowed to mutilate their bodies. Same with men who are XY. JMO.

I told you folks sexuality was a continuim.

I have seen gender changed folks.

Some of the men who changed to women looked a whole lot better than most women.

One "woman" said to me "I was married once but my dear husband died and went to heaven."

I had a hard time keeping a straight face.

I'm pretty much a "live and let live" kind of gal. I presume that the person living their life knows better than I do what it's like to be them. Life is short, do what brings you the most happiness (within the law, of course!).

I think I may be a Lesbian trapped in a male body. If there's any help for me, please don't tell me.

Brew, I think you are beyond help in that area! I tend to live and let live like Merri, and have no idea what those folks really go through. One can only imagine.

I'm on the "live and let live" bandwagon, too. Ever since my first wife
left me for another woman (true story - let the violins play softly), I
was first outraged, then sad, then slowly became compassionate for her
situation. She was a kind and fun person to be with - we just simply
had too much in common... we both liked girls.

Besides, if that had not happened I wouldn't have married my present wife of 31 years!

H'mmm - I can see advantages to this.

This is a little off topic. I had a friend who came back from visiting her family overseas to a house that was a disaster from her spouse's alone time.

She said that proved her theory: men would return to the caves if it wasn't for women.

Men, as in "all men" is an unfair generalization.

Abe, I think sometimes we women drive men to WANT to return to caves.

My fella hates all my knick knacks and doesn't even want pictures hanging on the wall. He does concede, however, and I can pretty much decorate the way I want. He does draw the line on colored walls. We compromised--the paint we agreed on was 'macaroon', just a hint of sunshine in it.
