| Yes, Brew, I did notice that about Southern cooking. So did my digestive system whenever I was way down south in Dixie. |

| My mother fried her green tomatoes with cornmeal like Brew’s wife, but I make them with batter and flour.
I slice them a little thinner, dipping each slice into a batter of egg and milk, then dredge it with flour, and fry until brown. Salt and pepper while frying. It’s more like a tempura batter, but I love them. And I fry zucchini slices the same way. Delicious.
I watched W and was stunned. While I realize Oliver Stone takes some liberties here and there, I had the uncomfortable feeling that the movie was more true than not. Scary to think that he ran the country for so many years. What’s even more scary is that I believe him and voted for him. |

| And eggs are good for you! They change their minds, so I just stick with what works for me. Butter and eggs are staples in my book, but I had switched to whole grain breads a long time ago. I like the flavor. White bread is too gooey! |

| Years ago when all the headlines said eggs were unhealthy, an old-time doctor in Denver was a guest on a PBS station. Not only did he disagree, but he said eggs were the most nutritious foods we could eat. He said he always ate two or three each day. He was in his eighties at the time and still in practice. |

| When my kids were young, my husband was away, and I didn't know what else to fix for dinner, we would have breakfast of eggs, bacon, etc.
I always fed those kids what I thought was healthy.

| Yes, and if you mention something like bacon and eggs to a lot of people, they react in horror, as if you're out of your mind or just simply don't care about nutrition.
I go back and forth, eating what I want, and when I gain weight, I starve myself and try to eat like 'they' say. Only problem is, I'm always hungry. I don't know how to super-slim people do it on an apricot here, an apple there, sprigs of this for lunch, and a twig for dinner. And what's worse, they seem to be happy about it. |

| I've never understood folks who ate like birds or rabbits, either, Brenda. I like my meat and potatoes along with a salad or veggies. Many years ago I went on the low carb diet and lost lots of weight, but I was lethargic and looked like a refugee from a death camp with the outlines of bones showing everywhere under my skin. That isn't healthy, either. |

| With red meat I have to watch the fat content, as that can deposit around your arteries and lead to coronary problems later on. I usually go for a brisk jog after red meat or even chicken and chips, just to keep the health plan right. With eggs I have to watch the cholesterol, but otherwise wholemeal bread with fried egss is niiicceee... |

| About ten years ago I did the low-carb thing too, Zada, and lost a lot of weight. I was thrilled. However, my body suddenly rebelled and I got nauseated after each meal. I thought I had a horrible disease and was terrified, but when I went back to normal foods, I was fine.
Desperate to lose weight again, I recently tried the low-carb diet, even stocked up on excellent cuts of steak, but I couldn't stay on it past three or four days. Like you, I became lethargic, could barely get myself out of bed.

| My husband's aunt was in her early eighties and had always been active and in good health. She also had a good appetite. Her doctor announced her cholesterol was too high, so he put her on horribly-expensive pills and a restricted diet. one egg a week, no shrimp, no this, no that.
She no longer went to lunch at her favorite place for a shrimp salad and found some breakfast cereal her doctor approved. She lost some weight, also lost something else as well. She was a retired school teacher and had always attended reunions, traveled the world with her sister, my mother in law, even rode camels when viewing the pyramids. I believe they were both in their late seventies at that time.
After the doctor 'helped' her, she lost her zest for life and quit doing most everything. A couple of years later, she died.
I'm not sure the doctors know as much as they say they do.
And a brisk walk, Abdul, is great for all of us. If we'd only do it. |

| I eat like a bird. I always have. It is just me. To keep eating to clean my plate is often miserable. I have been the same weight for years. Do not credit this to will power. It is just how much I can eat. There is food I love; like prime rib, ice cream, chocolate.
My husband loves to eat. He loves food. He loves to go to the grocery store, read restaurant menus.

| It boils down to what works for you. I have my own system. I eat what I want but then adjust my activities to burn it off. The problem is often centered around the digestive process. Meat takes longer to digest than vegetables. Chewing it well can speed up digestion. Most often, before the stomach can do its job, it gets inundated with more food to process, and without a method to burn it off, it will put on the weight. The body needs so much to function based on the activity required. Excess food simply requires a method to get rid of it. Going on starving binges is not healthy, however there is a benefit to "fasting," not in the religious sense, but to cleanse the system. During the grape harvest, I eat grapes while I pick them. By the end of the day I'm not very hungry. It also acts as a good flush. |

| My mother was like you, Carol, and she was always petitie, barely five-one, slim and trim. Unfortunately, I'm like my grandmother who loves food - loves to cook, loves to eat. I stretch the truth and say I'm five-three, but I'm closer to five feet than I want to admit.
My problem is, I'm too short for my weight. |

| I love grapes, Abe, especially with seeds like nature intended. However, I can no longer find them in the stores. Everyone wants seedless grapes, then they go to the health food store and pay high prices for psyllum husks, or whatever they're called, do so the cleansing job that grape seeds do naturally.
Just like they'll fight for a parking spot next to the gym door, then pay to walk on a treadmill for an hour. |

| I had a huge "do not eat list" and followed it which did not work to raise what I needed to in my blood. I got healthy, went back to my original diet, while being careful of things like dark green veggies, cranberries and blueberries, all which I like.
I love my new doctor. Last time I went to see him he said the medical profession didn't always get it right. The oncologist and I discussed possibilities of more surgery, scans, etc., and both decided none were necessary.
It is very important for doctors to put "quality of life" into the mix. They need to know what kind of a person has an illness, rather than just what illness a person has.

| Carol, I read that a bird eats seven times its own weight every day. Guess that isn't what you meant, is it? |

No. And I don't eat seeds either.
