| OK, Mel, seems nobody likes any of my topics, so you're ... Naw, I'm going to try a few more. Here's the first. Let's discuss... Flower arranging as a way to break into the undertaking business? Any thoughts? |

| The fun factor of feeding a giant viagra pill to a bull elephant and then turning him loose in a herd of goats. I'd rate this a 9.5, but hey, that's just me. |

Please, God, say it ain't so. |

| Apparently our Governor in Texas wants the state to leave the union. This stuff is manufactured nuttery. |

| I think he just kind of hinted at the possibility of secession, DT, kind of keeping his options open. Well, Brew, I plan on being around in 2102, don't you? Is that an election year, or did I make a typo, and why didn't either of you want to discuss the elephant, the viagra, and the goats? |

| I've been away from the computer for a while and missed your posts, Don. I loved Thelma and Louise and one of my all-time favorite chick flicks is While You Were Sleeping. I always cry when I watch Steel Magnolias, too. I never miss a chance to watch Jurassic Park and have spent more than a few weekends holed up in my apartment watching The Lord of The Rings trilogy (the extended versions). |

| Very good post, Merri, and I also like Steel Magnolias. Is Jurassic Park considered a chick flick? I guess it would be to a female raptor. Next up, I want to talk about the reasons some have for not drinking water. Stay tuned! |

| Ha! No, it's not a chick flick, but it's one of my "can't miss" movies, so I snuck it in there. =) Looking forward to the water discussion. |

| Speaking of Steel Magnolias, what about Fried Green Tomatoes? That's one on my faves.

| Hello Harpe its good to see your posts I always enjoy them and reading this one from beginning to end cracked me up. I see what another author meant when he stated the rest of us write to an audience of one. Back to one of your many threads. I despise chic flicks (imagine that) but I have heard the older a man gets the more feminine they become. I'm still worrying about that one. |

| Don, you have been a busy bee while I have been hard at work on my beauty sleep. =)
I think I'll take a stab at the former topic, at least as much as my morning brain will allow. Don't expect a lot.
There were several times in the last eight years when GW had an opportunity to shine. I feel like he made many fainthearted attempts, but never quite got the job done. He started out by pulling America together after our September eleventh tragedies, yet he seemed to always go off on another track. Our economy nosedived in the toilet, yet nothing much was done about it. He knew he was going out so I think he just decided to leave the mess for someone else to clean up. Many talked about morals and family values. Sorry, but GW was as moral as any of us, no better, no worse. I want a leader, not someone who is a decent dad, but sits on his hump for eight years and does little. And McCain certainly had a few skeletons in his familial closet. Apparently, many Americans felt the same way, and for the first time ever we have an African American president.
People say they hate Obama, how terrible he is. I wish everyone would just shutup and give him a chance to do some good. He may fail, but let him try. We gave GW eight years and Obama has only been in office for mere weeks. Let's see what he can or can't do. If we don't like it in four years we can vote for someone else. I waited eight to get Bush out of there.
Sarah Palin in 12'?
I sure hope not! |

| DT, I posted a link to an article about Governor Perry's "manufactured nuttery" on the Current Events thread.
Mel, my father and George Sr were business associates, and I met him several times back in the 70's and 80's. I liked him. I even voted for him in '88, but by '92 I had become a Dem, and voted for Clinton both terms, and would again. But his son W was always a bratty son of a rich father - a caricature, even, of a type I've seen too many of. I cannot understand how so many people were fooled by him. If you haven't seen the Oliver Stone film, I recommend it. It's a pretty accurate picture.
Obama, IMHO, is doing as good a job as anyone could of cleaning up the mess of the last eight years. I'm betting that he will stick around for a second term.

| I have never seen a single movie mentioned here, but The Maltese Falcon is on TCM tonight. The mere thought of Palin spoiled an otherwise nice morning. |

| Dick, give Fried Green Tomatoes a try. It's based on a murder mystery written by Fannie Flagg. It's one of the few good books that was turned into an equally good film.

| I'll watch for all of them on TV. The last time we went to a theater to see a movie was 1992. |

Ann I haven't seen the new Bush movie, but if I happen upon it I will watch it. I have Twilight sitting here and haven't got to it yet, either. The one thing that struck me about Bush W is his arrogance. I've never seen the man in person, but it was so palatable you could see it from the TV. I didn't care for it, among other things. I think it's cool how Daddy Bush and Bill Clinton are now friends. They do charity work together and play golf. So there is some hope for the bi-partisan movements of future US politics. I am really hoping Obama can fix the mess we're in. And I am also hoping people will leave him alone to try and fix it. The hatred in this country scares me. As soon as we elected a black president, people got real nasty. I posted pics of the Obama rally I attended in Indianapolis on Myspace, and actually got hate mail. I was shocked. I didn't even answer it. |

| Ahh, Legends of the Fall! The character, Tristan, makes me think of Audie Murphy, as I came to "know" him. I really, really liked that one.
