What was my point ? That having your book in a bookstore will not necessarily sell it.

That the prce is irrelevant. I just tried to give away my book and got few takers.

The book business is hard to figure out.

I know, Ann,

I am not complainiing, I am observing.
Book selling is tough business.

Readers are finicky. Why read a book on a disease if you don't have the disease?

Why bother if you don't even know anyone with the disease?
Then again, if you want to read about a disease--pick a better disease to know about.

I don't think people in general don't know enough about the disease. Books like yours is needed Alice.

Lin,
I make no bones about it My book has no hidden agenda. I wrote it for the sole purpose of bringing hope to Parkinson's disease patients and their families.

It has done that.

I keep no proceeds from the book.

It is a very easily read and understood book.

Alice's book is about more than a disease.

Recently I read "Born on a Blue Day" by a man who is autistic. I wanted to read it for reference regarding my autistic grandson. After the first page I was not reading about a disease or a condition, but about an exceptional man I grew to like a whole lot.

Alice's book is like that.

My point is this, Alice.
You say you are making the point that we can't get out books sold. Because yours didn't.

Not a valid point. Just because any one book doesn't sell in a store doesn't mean that another won't. Just because yours didn't sell doesn't mean that ours won't.

I quite agree with you. It seems to me that the book market
is hard to predict. It may not be that way for you. I hope you have a bestseller.

The point was well made. In the past, while out shopping, I used to accept freebies mindlessly. At home, I realised that I would never use the free item and it would just gather dust so I learned, albeit slowly, to stop accepting freebies.

However, I have just written an article that will be appearing online soon about giving away free PDF files as a marketing ploy. As soon as it is up, I will add a link.

No, as a matter of fact, Shelagh -- and sorry to disagree with the "Shelter Alice no matter what insane things you have to pretend to do so and whether or not she even needs it" policy.

But the point of fact her experience with HER book does not, in fact generalize to MY book, nor to the books of any other YOU who happened to read it.

I don't think this is a particularly awful thing to point out.

Sheesh

Be patient, Lin. Wait until my article appears online. I sent it away days ago, before Alice started this thread. Alice knows what she's doing. She's brigter than the average guy on the street. She's brighter than a lot of people. You don't like the way she sees through people and lets them know in her own indomitable way. She has you weighed up. So do most of the members here. Oh, and I don't need to protect Alice. But you know that. You're not so daft yourself.

Lin,
I was impressed with your forthright manner in saying what you think. I mentioned that is some other thread. You got to the point and cut through the BS. Comments recently have caused me to question my thinking. Things you said reminds me somewhat of a bully on the playground beating up on the smaller kids. I thought you were above that.
I realize that you probably don’t give a dam what I think, but remaining silent while you dish out abuse to friends on this forum is not something I can do.
I’m wondering who Lin really is. The intelligent critic who provides insights and help, or a person with a Jeckel and Hyde personality. Or perhaps just having a bad week/month.

The main thing is, Lin, many here have known Alice for awhile on other message boards. Those of us who have read her book know her even better. She is feisty. She says what she thinks. She has a good sense of humor. She is kind and caring.

Now you can trust us who have gotten to know her over a couple of years, or you can trust your opinion of the few posts you have read here.

We defend her because she is a friend. You don't have to be friends with her, but at least have some respect for our opinions based on a bit of history.

Paraphrasing what Abe said, you either are havin a bad day/month, or my first impression was greatly incorrect.

It is ridiculous to disrupt a board like this.

Yeah, sure Shelagh.

ALl you cluckers, go back there and try to find out what I said that was so damned awful.

All I said was that one person not selling a book doesn't make for a rule. If you disagree, fine.

THen I get personal insults from Alice and Don, pretty much for nothing.

And I'm the bully? The bad guy?

Fine

Everyone should settle down and read the posts again. Alice made a valid point in that just becasue an average book doesn't sell does not mean that Stephen King's will not. I can't see what the fuss is about.

Lin,

Recently, you sent me a message asking if I'd deleted one of your posts (a reply to Carol). Marie had posted the same comment on two different threads and when you saw one of these comments and not yours, you assumed that I had deleted the comment. I had to find your comment and paste in a link in my reply to you, showing you that I had not deleted your post.

This kind of nonsense wastes my time. You are still doing it. Don hasn't posted on this thread. I've just wasted time going back re-reading to find a post that isn't there. If you are complaining about another thread, then you are the one stalking Alice. yet you accused Alice of stalking you on her threads! It's all very childish. I have better things to do with my time.

I am not going to ban you, but I will change your password if you persist. The next time the forum asks for your password, you will have to request a new one. If you are that keen to stay a member, sobeit. I'm fed up with this.

I just wanted to post and say, Abe, your new picture is awesome. Looks like something on a billboard modeling clothing. =) And I don't like BS either. But generally, BS works two ways. See you on FB!
