Anyone on this forum who has not read Dick Stodghill’s book, “Normandy 1944 – A Young Rifleman’s War,” is missing something special. It not only gives some insight about the author, but also about the men and women who serve in our armed forces. Anyone who has not seen the devastation of war will have a front row seat to the reality of war - not Hollywood’s glamorized versions. Dick tells it like it is. His opposition to war will be understood. Dick includes humorous quips when describing people, places and events. Finding humor in the midst of tragic events is reflective of the man. He describes ‘the good, the bad and the ugly,’ to quote a phrase. Read it! You will be glad you did.

Abe,

It was the first PA book I read and I believe I was one of the first to review it. Read my review to see what I thought of Dick's book. I concur with your feelings, Abe.

Shelagh,

I started a thread and put my review there. I hope others will add theirs.

It is the best book I have ever read on World War II.

I was thinking of Dick Stodghill today on the 75th anniversary of Normandy.  His book, “Normandy 1944” is still a good read.  If he were alive, I imagine he would have been present standing with the remaining few that were part of the invasion.
