| Does dying bother you?
Woud you prefer to discuss it, forget it, or just do it?
I have noticed that those who talk about it live the longest.
Since I am wishing to live long--I will broach this unpleasant subject. |

| lin, You had better worry--you are too anxious to talk about it. Four minutes has to be the fastest response I have ever gotten. |

| Death is always the end result of living. At least that is what I'm told but I am hoping everyone is wrong |

| The thought doesn't bother me a bit. Why should it when logic had me dead at 18? That was a few years back, as you may know. As the oldest member of this board, logic has me next in line, but you never know. I wrote my obit in 1985 and then updated it a few times before deciding I don't want one in any newspaper. No funeral service either. As a firm believer that the next step is The Big Sleep I see nothing to fear other than some of the miserable ways of taking the final step. Have you ever seen a basket man? That's one of many things far worse than dying. I'm also a firm believer in euthanasia, but I'm not sure I know how to spell it. |

| Well, pretty much from the moment we are born ... each day we live is bringing us one day closer to the day we will die.
I enjoy life ...but I've had enough close calls and seen enough to know just how fragile humans are and that we can check out in an unforeseen instant.
I am not afraid of no longer living ... I just hope the event that eventually takes me out won't involve horrible suffering.
Actually, I've accomplished more in my life than I'd hoped and I've known pure joy and true happiness. So, I know I won't feel that my life was unfulfilled.
I'd rather continue living and hope to have a long life ... but I am not afraid of what I know is the eventuality of us all.

| I thought last September that I was not going to be alive today, or Thanksgiving or Christmas. But here I am. It took a while to get used to, and by that time it was not an imminent possibility as early on, but there is a kind of surrender when one knows one could die from an illness one has. And then after that surrender every day is a gift and exciting and a bonus.
I did redo my "final wishes" before going on this trip. I had done them a few years ago, but then had crossed out so much and added so much, it needed to be rewritten. This is not the same as our will, but just final wishes, and one is to have a story of mine read at my funeral. And I also said they were only suggestions. I have seen too many people locked into things they really didn't want to do.
I really want to live to be at least 80, and medical professionals have told me it was possible.

| I can honestly say if I bowed out tomorrow, I’ve done everything I’ve dreamt of doing. If I dreamt of doing something and separated it from FANTASY, I did it. Dreamt of walking the Rockies like a mountain man…Did it for a year (Got the idea for BEARKILLER while doing it). Dreamt of being a soldier…Did it for ten years. Dreamt of skydiving…Did it 1386 times. Dreamt of being a competitive rifle shooter…Was ranked number 3 in the Nation for two years. Dreamt of being a Rodeo rider...Rode saddle broncs one summer (too much like work) Dreamt of seeing the world…Been on every continent in the world except Antarctica (never dreamt of freezing my a$$ off)…been in every state except Hawaii (Hawaii is still a fantasy) Dreamt of seeing the U.S. by motorcycle...crossed it twice on a Harley, Coast to Coast and once Border to Border. Dreamt of writing an adventure novel…Wrote three, working of four and five. Dreamt of getting a novel published…Three down, shooting for number four for the summer. Dreamt of finding the perfect love…My bride and I celebrated our fortieth anniversary in January (She puts up with me, she must be perfect). These are just examples; the point is if I separated a DREAM from a FANTASY, I made it happen. MORE DREAMS COMING! (If I don't bow out tomorrow)

| I must agree with JoElle. From the moment of birth, we begin to die. Hopefully we have a good journey in between. I have lived well and at times not so well. But I think after having lived on this earth, once will be enough. Hereafter? I don't know because I haven't been there yet, but I suspect it is not what we envision. Spirits? Yes, I do believe they are here among us. I think they try to protect and guide us. I have had enough 'close calls' to feel I have been protected, and don't fear them. I do hope that my demise will be a merciful one, but there is nothing to be done about it except to accept whatever befalls me. |

| Interesting thread. I can relate to Don's statement: "I’ve done everything I’ve dreamt of doing." I did the things I dreamed of doing and more, but they didn't all turn out the way I expected. Sometimes our figment of imagination is faulty. Realizing my last dream - writing a novel and seeing it in books stores, was a bit faulty. Writing a book was my very first goal as a child, and the last to be achieved.
No, I'm not troubled of dying. I faced that possibility. I'm troubled only in staying fit so that I will not become a burden to anyone. Of all the things I've accomplished, and the least compensated, is my authorship that has now been extended to three novels. In the end, should I be able to view things after I'm gone, I would want to see a single word inscribed next to my name on the tombstone, and that is the word, "Author." |

| I am with Dick--no funeral services for me.. The thought of everyone getting dressed up to come ad say nice things about me is revolting. If they couldn't bother while I was alive--then they needn't bother at all. |

| People should have a party when you die to celebrate the life that was and wish you a good journey to the next or whatever you believe in. I know we miss the ones we lose but the funeral service, I feel should be a joy as we remember the good times we shared with them. |

| One of my best friends says what he would really like is to have a post-mortem party in which his body is cooked and served to his friends and loved ones as a banquet.
I doubt it will catch on. |
