My grandfather was a rancher, though he also worked for the Forest Service a bit at that time. I remember him telling me that a wheat farmer came to his ranch to sell him a truck. There was a side of beef hanging in the barn and the farmer kept looking at it. As he left he gave it a last look and it slipped out, unbidden. "If we hat that, we might make it through this winter." Then, embarassed, he hurried off. |
