| 9/15/2015 Now we have 8,000 people out of work in NJ and another 3000 will be laid off in Nov., and the Govt. lies and says the economy is great! Bull....Yes they claim there were too many casinos but what they don't factor in is people will spend money on food and necesseties before gambling. Just like here in New Mexico there's too many casinos I know of one I keep reading about that's 15 mins. from here and they so far haven't paid the interest on their huge loans....So Gov. Christie will have a lot of worrying to do with 11,000 people laid off and Atlantic city is falling apart and the funny thing is outside of Atlantic City is still a slum.....I think they should re-make Atlantic City into one large amusement park everyone can bring their children to,.... Joe.......... |

They should make Atlantic City the Disney of the East Coast. Build up housing for the people, make Atlantic City one huge play ground for children and adults....Almost like Coney Island used to be in the old days..
Cheers...Joe |

| I'm beginning to think it's not a political party issue but rather a propaganda issue of churning out misinformation.
Does anyone here believe what we read anymore? Every statistic regardless of its source is considered suspect. One group would lead us to believe that only those who don't want to be employed are without work. Another tells us all the work has gone overseas. We can pretty much figure out that the overseas issue is correct by reading labels. It's very difficult to find anything to buy from food to furniture that's made in the U.S. and if it is, it's not affordable to the the general public.
Now, let's figure out who is employing the people overseas. Where did they get their start? What country provided them the benefits to rise to their global corporate wealth? Who benefits from their profits? We don't need reporters to figure this one out either.
So, we have people unemployed; people making less money even if they are employed; and the employed paying less taxes. We have the very wealthy establishing themselves overseas so they don't pay any taxes or using the legitimate loopholes their lobbyists maintain in the IRS system so their taxes are less than a laundress in a hotel. So, the government is employing fewer people (that includes local through federal employees for many services that help people become employed through education, support services, and connections to what careers remain.
So, our workforce system is broken.
If anyone thinks a Republican Congress and a Republican President are going to cooperate to bring corporate money back to the U.S., collect taxes from the very wealthy (to which class they belong), provide public service jobs to rebuild infrastructure to encourage small business development and fund education to the level it should be (by the way, the darling of the Republicans, Charter Schools, are failing miserably in Florida, that bastion of Republicanism that wants the entire school system charter schools. A recent Republican newspaper did an expose on the idiots serving on charter school boards, raking in the profits for themselves while the schools go bust one after the other and cheat on graduate degrees, etc.)
No, the only hope for this nation is for the voters to rebel and demand candidates who will pledge (yes, that's what the tea party got - pledges to do nothing) to revamp the IRS to collect the money owed and reward corporations that support the country in which they gained their wealth, make sure every child has pens and pencils and a backpack for school without standing in line for hours for the President to pack charity back packs, and create a Public Peace Corps to work in inner cities and pockets of poverty to find the cause and create solutions.
Candidates need to pledge that they will revamp the campaign system to limit expenditures and campaigning time so they do their job instead of constantly running for their job. All campaign contributions go to a central pool and representatives draw from that pool to a limit according to the number of people in their districts that vote for them.
Limit staff expenditures so they actually have to work. Change their work calendar to be the equivalent of the average worker in the U.S. Corporate executives earning similar wages usually work 60-80 hours per week and seldom take vacations. Not that I consider that necessary or correct, but the Congressmen and women are far from those hours.
Pledge to implement term limits. They may serve again but may serve no more than two terms in a row. Pledge to have non-compete type agreements signed by representatives so they do not leave their elected offices for a position that uses their special privileges and connections to increase their personal wealth or the influence of a special interest group.
Candidates need to pledge that they will eliminate the lobby system by sharing research staffs and pooling incoming information from lobbyists so no one Congress person is under the specific influence of a special interest group - all representatives will share the input to the general pool from those lobbyists.
Modern research methods and technology make an information pool that accepts input from interest groups available to all researchers logical. |

DK..
It was a well known fact Atlantic City was failing...I do believe Casinos have seen their heyday...Why is it Las Vegas is on top and all the casinos around the country are failing...Why because people are getting smart they know, I know and you know your not going to win.
Cheers..Joe |

| People who are unemployed and underemployed have less cash to risk. Once Casino's were affordable with cheap hotels and food. Today, the accommodations are not cheap and neither is the food. Those with lots of cash to gamble are holding it just like the corporations are holding their profits -
Also, when times are good, the Trumps get all the money they want to risk to build Casino's and overspend to compete - when the ticket is called in during bad times, they are overextended. They have the clout to find more money. The poor blokes working for them when they fail are on the street with fewer and fewer options.
I worked for an education system in which public community colleges trained casino workers. The jobs paid well for two years and less training past high school. We trained them in Idaho and they went to the Casinos in Nevada.
Times change. People change. Gambling may also be done in the desperate quietude of your own home for those addicted. It saves transportation and accommodations and food. Casino type gambling on computers is quite exciting I'm told. Even kids get addicted with their parents' credit cards. |
