I was not allowed in. Granted, I had said some negative things about them at PAMB and AS at the time, which, if nothing else, indicated that they were, in fact monitoring those sites. Officially, the mods had told members to leave AS alone. Always loved the warm fuzzies story. |

| In light of the fact that more and more authors are CHOOSING to self-publish and many are doing quite well, in addition to those CHOOSING small presses, much of the bashing by AW is out of date and does not fit the current publishing scenario. They did not see it coming - their vision was clouded by their own ego pruning instead of recognizing the landscape was changing and their view of a legitimate author is archaic.
Yes, there is a lot of dross on the market; however, legitimate reviewers tell readers which books to read. In fact, if a reader chooses to read a messed up book because they like the author and the subject, that is now their right. New York publishers, though the easier road to notoriety for sure, do not totally control who makes it and who does not nor do they determine what is the best and the worst of new publications. They still control most of the major lists and reviewers.
Readers are taking control of what they want in the marketplace with the expenditures they make. It's obvious that they are choosing the lesser expensive eBooks. Libraries are now making eBooks available and including self-published and small press authors in their offerings.
It behooves the new run of authors without agents and New York connections to be sure their works are professional, well-edited and error free as readers and reviewers still watch for a "lesser read" when they know a book is self-published and unlike New York publications where comments are never made regarding the format or typo's in a book, reviewers do comment on everything in the self-published and small press books. |
