Well everyone this is as far as I've got in writing, my brain is in la la land ! Here's what I have done so far, what do you think ?
" It was a misty day, it was May 12, 2020, the bells of St. Peters Square rang loudly almost a sorrowful ring, something happened at the Vatican. Don Giovanni stood silent in the square looking towards the Vatican, he kneeled down and made a sign of the cross and whispered: " Oh holy Mother, please protect our Pope, Pope Stephen." Then he ran towards the vatican to see what happened, he came upon hundreds of people who raced to the square when they heard the bells...........
Cheers...Joe...

Joe, I highly recommend Mark Davie Gerson's Voice of the Muse and Writer's Block Unblocked. I first learned of this author from our own Malcolm Campbell, and have found all of his books to be helpful and inspirational http://www.markdavidgerson.com/writers.html

For me, Joe, I have to be alone, have four vodka and grapefruit, and then, maybe then, my mind will unwind a story. Sometimes I write the story in my sleep but never put it onto paper. I am lazy that way. I wish you luck. To me, writing a story is almost transendental...I have to be on a completely other plane. I used to be able to fly in my transendental state, but, no more. I am anchored by the worldlyness of my life.
Your mind is a fluid thing. If you can remember that and not be controled by the static-ness of your every day life, well, there you go. Off into the beauty of your own imagination. That is the place you want to be. Let it all go.....drink a couple of glasses of wine...I believe in the positive effects of alcohol. Most of the great authors of old were taking something to relax their minds....opium was the choice of lots of them, cocaine was Sir Author's, and many took to the bottle. Of course, they did not have electricity. Those shadows in the room have inspired many a good book. I believe you have it with in you to blab it out. Turn out the light and get a little drunk, the write, write, write. In the morning, read what your freed mind has put upon the paper and edit. Myy best love to you, Joe. Love, Betty

Betty..
Many times I can re-read what I wrote and then it's like watching a movie I start to see what I want to write, I know it sounds weird, I've told people this and I get strange looks, I call it my minds eyes..

Dear Joe, Those are the eyes that see in the dark of the night...I believe in them. The eye that sees the story you are writng before you can find the words to put down. Pay attention to those night time words. sometimes they are the real expressions that tell the story under the story you are writing.
It is when I am not trying to think of something to write down that I can find the best story in my mind. It is too bad that I cannot just plug my mind into a writing machine that puts it all down.
It has always been that way with me. Love, Betty

Sometimes I find if I go for a walk to see nature, where it's quiet, no human beings, no noise, then maybe just maybe the brain will flow like a river..................I can't go near the mountains or trails I just found out the morons are hunting, dangerous for me...

I think we all do that Joe. I work a complete book in scenes…just like they do in the movies. This way I can jump around from scene to scene. If I don’t like a scene, I put a big red mark on it for rewrite, and go on. Other times I find a scene is in the wrong place, or even the wrong book. I never throw anything away…what may be wrong for one book, I may use in a different book.
On days I just can’t write with a free flow, I do rewrite stuff on scenes.
Say what you posted you didn’t like, or felt it could be better…here is what I do.
1) I make it shorter.
2) I don’t give the reader all the information about what is going on…I want them to read the next page.
3) I take out every word that does not help the story.
Yeah your right…just the basic stuff we all use. Here is an example using what you posted: (this is not to say what you did is bad, I’m just using it as an example.)
" It was a misty day, it was May 12, 2020, the bells of St. Peters Square rang loudly almost a sorrowful ring, something happened at the Vatican. Don Giovanni stood silent in the square looking towards the Vatican, he kneeled down and made a sign of the cross and whispered: " Oh holy Mother, please protect our Pope, Pope Stephen." Then he ran towards the vatican to see what happened, he came upon hundreds of people who raced to the square when they heard the bells........…”
Somewhere a kid, or an old man was pulling on a rope of one of the two million bells in Rome. Don Giovanni drew a cross in the clods above the Vatican. Foreigners had left the square looking like a garbage dump. Something was wrong…people were starting to kneel, and cry out to Mary.
Joe, I’m not suggesting you change your writing, but change the order in which you write.
When you can't write, edit. When you can’t do either…be Italian. Drink some chilled wine, listen to some music, have a little pasta, and yes, watch the girls go by.
I keep a picture of Shelagh on hand when I have to break out the vino..

Dom has some good points, Joe. There is an effective software program that helps keep track of scenes and helps you to stay organized, and it's free.

Thanks alj, I can use that. More times than not, I have to read everything just to find a scene if I have not worked on a story for a few weeks.

Joe...I was not thinking of Shelagh in that way. I was thinking more like a sailor who has been at sea for six months.
