Aunt Dollie, David's aunt passed on this week at the age of 92. I did not know Aunt Dollie well, but I knew she was a tenatious, loving person who lived through the depression and lived her convictions that we are all here to help one another on the road to our end.
More than 200 people attended her funeral that lasted three hours. She was a humble and poor person who attended to her faith by not mentioning it.
It was the most honoring service I have attended.
God blessed anyone whom Aunt Dollie found.
Love,
Betty

Thank you all for your kindness. Of all the funerals I have been to, her "friends and family" have been the most numerous and the most respectful. How kind she was in her lifetime. How kind to so very many people to have 200 show up on this cold and very windy day to honor her life. The preacher had known her for many years as well. He could talk of her life in a personal way. She was one of a kind, for sure.
Love,
Betty

I used a song that Nat King Cole made famous that David Rosenberg posted to his facebook page recently "Nature Boy" for an inspirational reading at church: There was a boy... A very strange enchanted boy. They say he wandered very far, very far Over land and sea, A little shy and sad of eye But very wise was he.
And then one day, One magic day he passed my way. And while we spoke of many things, Fools and kings, This he said to me, "The greatest thing you'll ever learn Is just to love and be loved in return."
The haunting melody makes it stick in one's mind. "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.
That sounds like Aunt Dolly and my stepmother and those we remember with fondness. It's not their wealth but their faith and their generous spirit that we remember. It's not their fame or accomplishments, it's their character that sticks. A lesson to us all. Thanks for sharing.

"Nature Boy" is a song by Eden Ahbez, published in 1947.
Here's Nat King Cole's version:

We received a call from Dave's cousin yesterday. Unfortunately, it was what should have been sad news, it was to announce the death of his 90 year old stepmother. There was nothing but relief in his voice. There are no plans for a service and he made it crystal clear that she had brought no joy to him. There is such a difference in people. I wish he could have had an Aunt Dolly in his life.

Oh, Alice,
I do too.
There is so very much love to flow forth ...person to person....not just people who are family and know each other...but
I find no words for this kind of love....human to human is not enough, life to life is not enough
Somehow, in my sleep I can understand the amount of love that is needed and how much love I have to give and it is not enough. How much love other people have to give and hold it back out of fear and it is never enough. What a flood of love it will take.
Perhaps love is measured out in ounces or grams. It is never enough unless no one measures.
Love,
Betty

I can't add anything to what has already been expressed. With the sadness comes the joy of knowing such a loving person.
