| Yes, that is what we say in general every Sunday at church. However, we are human. Humans come with a bunch of emotions that need expression in appropriate ways, even if it is to voice anger at the ridiculous behavior of people.
I was married to a platitude talker, church goer, even deacon of the church. He was president of multiple organizations that benefited society. He also had a dark side that was heinous and about which no one knew.
Possibly it was his dark side that he tried to overcome by the facade of pretty words and hopeful talk. He was the optimist, the never speak negatives person.
I admit to seeing life from many perspectives, hope on a good day and concern on a bad day. All the platitudes in the world won't change that except on the day they fit. It doesn't mean that I don't take a blessing piece of paper with it's positive for the moment and treasure the ones that seem just right for me - sometimes keeping them on my desk.
I believe in putting positive into the universe so it multiplies - the exploding positives affect. I also believe in being honest and stating clearly when I am distressed about human behavior and the state of the world. I also believe in putting my thoughts into action. Therefore, I worked on the Obama campaign this year because I had the time and the desire - and the fear that religion would be legislated - more turning the clock back as it added to what republicans in states have already done. I didn't just talk about what was right, I took action to make it right. I see that as positive - and it was multiplied by the positive action of the committee with whom I worked.
I write great stories about wonderful people for the Southwest Spotlight www.swspotlight.com , stories of courage and about how one person can make a positive difference in the world. It is a lovely, positive paper to which I contribute, and it feels good.

| Expressing our distress is a good thing. Denying it just increases the pressure; the denied feelings will surface eventually and will be even harder to deal with.
Owning and expressing feelings is an important first step. Once expressed, they can be let go.
It works like grief. First we deny, then we get angry. Once the anger is done, we can feel the sadness of loss, and after that, we can accept the reality and move on.
It's a process, and hanging on to a part of the process gets us stuck. Believe me, I've been there - sometimes I still go there
As I said on the separation thread, it's about them and their fear and denial. Respond in kind and you become their victim.
You are strong woman with a lot of positive traits, DK. It is hard to picture you as a victim.
Just me. |

| Very rarely have I responded in kind to unkindness and harsh remarks. However, once when a person called me a "chicken," I responded, "Shark!" |

| Bet that felt good. You put it right back on them.
Responding in kind is, to my way of seeing it, more about holding on and internalizing, accepting their attitudes and being affected by them. Stored anger is going to surface eventually.
It's a lot easier to let go when you refuse to play the game.

| We need to accept reality. We won! The election is over. Let's rejoice and forget the negativity. So everyone does not agree with us. Their problem, not ours. Let it go. Thank heavens there is much more to life than politics. |
