Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks Empty
PostSubject: Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks   Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks EmptyMon Sep 03, 2012 2:17 pm

It is a total waste of time and energy. People think what they want to think and are not going to confuse themselves with the facts.
I came to this conclusion after a few days of trying to stimulate thought about politics.

People have decided Healthcare is simply too expensive and Socialistic for them to bother with.
Wars seem to be tolerated -I can't figure this one out.
They like who they like and lie about who they don't like.

Hiya Alice,

I have had discussions about the healthcare topic with folks for years; even way back when the Clinton's tried to implement such a plan.
We are ex-military and have enjoyed having healthcare for the past 20 years and are continueing to enjoy it now that "we" are retired (we have to pay for it now, but there is something to be said about No- co pay).
I do not understand why anybody would not want to have a healthcare plan--> especially those folks who have NONE right now.... it seems dumb to me (no offense if this applies to folks here- curious to hear what your reasoning against it is... if you have no healthcare plan at all right now).

The most daunting conversation that I have had in regard to this was with a gentleman in his late 40s who had no insurance, but quiet a few medical issues and the bills that came along with it. Still he was a devoted Republican and against a healthcare plan. After 45 minutes -- I gave up....lol... what he was saying just made no sense to me at all.

Huggles,
Katja

Dear Katja

Like you, I do not understand the argument against health care. Rich people have it and can afford it. Poor people do not have it. Many people die because the do not have it. It does not cost the Republicans anything. What is the problem? It boils down to a political volley ball. It is all rhetoric and hyperbole.

Dear Alice,

It really is a total waste of time to talk to people who will not get past their made up mind. I know people who are on welfare who would vote Republican if they could ever get off their dead, ignorant ass to to so far as to the the voting booth and cast. People are a bunch of hooey verbally.

I do have faith in the peoples of all colors who care about this nation to come out in force on election day.

Love,

Betty

Betty, you are old enough to remember the old saying, "You don't miss the water until the well runs dry."

That is much like those who don't care about health insurance until they have a serious health issue. They wake up when it's too late - after they lose their home due to medical bills. That's also the time when they are happy about welfare to survive. Attitudes change when it hits home.

PostSubject: Re: Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks   Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks EmptyTue Sep 04, 2012 7:10 am

People post on my Facebook page with outrageous and disrespectful photography and posts from right wing places that are intended to create division, disrespect and perpetuate lies. I have tried to answer them because the fact that they show up on my Facebook page does not mean I support such radical and ugly positions.

In this process, I have been accused of being blind in my support of President Obama, accusing others of being racist, ignoring the nepharious background of President Obama, etc. Yet, at no time have I said anything derogatory about Governor Romney or Paul Ryan except to point out the lies they have told by twisting out of context statements to their political advantage. That fact is well-documented by non-partisan sources - and I heard the lies myself after also having heard the original statements they twisted. I do know for a fact that they lied about "We Built This," Welfare, the automotive industry and Medicare. These were bold faced lies with true facts readily available.

Many people, not all, who are voting Republican do not care about lies. They only want President Obama out of office; why, is beyond me. The stock market is booming if you have anything invested. Private sector jobs are being created while Republican governors are reducing public sector jobs (so those fired people can go on social services instead of earning incomes and contributing to society), the Affordable Care Act is protecting millions of U.S. citizens as never before from imminent financial disasters.

I can't help but believe there is something mean-spirited about those who would force their religious beliefs on the rest of the population. Their "faith" directs them to roust out the infidels at all cost. It reminds me of foreign countries where religion and politics are one and the same....

For certain I know the purpose of the Big money republicans - to clear the field for greater and greater profits for the elite. Why working people would support those principles is also beyond me.

Democrats are not against wealth - some of my favorite Democrats have extreme wealth - they are against the graphs that shows the majority of U.S. Citizens losing financial ground and one in six children in poverty while the wealthiest are quadrupling their financial windfalls and returning little back to the country of their windfall.

But you are right, Alice. A closed mind is a closed mind. Lies are lies. Those who swallow them are very emotionally invested in their choices. The religious right believes they own patriotism, God, and life itself. They are ready to accept the worst propaganda films and photographs and laugh at the most disgusting cartoons the malign and demean the Office of the President.

Perhaps they have no other place to put their angst, their fears, their own suffering - so they have been herded into lemmings to hate the President - the one source of potential health and welfare for the ordinary person.

Good post, DK. Not only does FB contain politics, but religion as well.
Why must some tell me they love Jesus? Either they do or they don't. I don't think Jesus requires a commercial. And then we get those posts that ask us to Share it and keep in our our walls for a day or two. It is posted most often like coercion.

PostSubject: Re: Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks   Don't Bother Trying To Enlighten Folks EmptyTue Sep 04, 2012 10:39 am

I think that the average American is as desinterested in politics as the average German.

Most would rather watch a movie or a show than the news, and if they watch the news they stick to just one source (CNN, Fox, the local paper, etc).

However, even though in Germany your "church tax" comes straight out of your paycheck, I think that religion plays a much bigger role in American politics. It seems that every candidate has to profess his or her religion in order to even have a shot at being elcted, which I find scary. I would much rather they professed their common sense, their understanding of economics, their grasp on social issues, etc.

Just a thought....

Huggles,
Katja

I do not see anything "Christian" about people wanting the rich to get richer.

LOL Alice... neither do I... but that opens up a totally different can of worms... such as how Christian (or religious) are they really and truly....

My thought is simpy that in the 22 years that I have been in the States and have been keeping up with the politics (here)... every candidate professed their religion and religion has always been weasled into the elections somehow.

My comment goes to DK's 4th paragraph.

BTW I have to figure out how to put quotes into my comments.... would make it a lot easier... gonna practice down below....lol

OMG I have just noticed how easy the quoting is... and how complicated I have tried to make it by clicking on the "Quote Link" of the individual posts- that I had wanted to quote.

I think it is time for a nap...lol...
