I received this email from my daughter. Erik is my 8 year old grandson.
Erik's team - the Phillies - had 2 semifinals on Sat....won them both. Now, they are going into the championship game on Sunday having only lost 1 game all season.....and are 2nd ranked. As fate would have it, the #1 team gets knocked out surprisingly in a play off game. They had BEEN undefeated.
So here we are, Sunday 1pm....watching them play the Braves....flash forward, it's the 5th inning and we are at 5 to 18! We are 5......We're being annihilated....we're not batting as well, the outfield is not performing, the opponents are already celebrating......well, it's been a nice season and you can't always win in the end...
But...wait. It's the bottom of the 5th and we start going.......Erik's up as the first batter since he's the fastest runner and seems to always get on base..and now we're off.
We get like 7 runs that inning.
Top of the 6th - we have to hold them. Any runs they get means that we have to get that many more runs in our final chance.
Erik gets 2 outs playing 2nd base and then Carter, a team mate, gets the 3rd out with a super fast throw to first to get the runner out.
Bottom of the 6th.....the meat of our lineup is up...Erik hits again (4 times up, 4 good hits)...and then we are on fire....................bam, another hard hit, bam, another one, bam, another one.....we are on fire!
The game ends - 19 to 18 and we WIN!
Pandemonium erupts and a group of boys learn that you never, never give up and that team work really does pull you through...
It was unbelievable. I just wish you were all there to see it.
