Times are changing. Best selling authors and publishers are finding it easier to achieve that status by giving their books away.

Too many books.

President Kennedy was holding a TV press conference, and held a book. A reporter asked what he was reading. He held it up and said, "The Winter of Our Discontent," Steinbeck's last novel. Then he made a joke about hoping this wouldn't be the winter of his discontent. Overnight, sales of the book went through the roof.

So, here's what you do, Alice. Send copies of "Living by the Swamp" to Malia and Sasha Obama. Maybe Diane Sawyer or someone will ask what they're reading.

Al,

It is done--two books are on their way to Malia and Sasha Obama straight from Amazon.

They should get through that way. You are a genius.

They are individually wrapped and sent with a Happy New Year, Alice M Crooker gift message.

Now I hope they don't abhor them and throw them to their dog. Time will tell.

Dear Alice,
There is always the drawing for the sit down dinner with the presidential family. I have thought about that. If my name were the winning name, would I have a heart attack? What would I wear? Who could be the genius of makeup that would make me camera worthy? Could I just request a cook out here at Wooffer's Woods? Would my rich neighbors come?

I hope I win.

The books have been delivered at 9:04 am today. I wonder if they are in the rubbiish bin yet or if they will be allowed to live. Interesting experiment.
