When we were young and working nonstop, our folks would come and say how busy they had been.
We used to wonder why they were so busy.
It dawned on me today. I awoke yesterday morning with a blurry eye. Saw an eye doctor today--upshot dry eye. I must wash lubricate and oil my eyes several times per day.
My back requires numerous exercises and my heart wishes me to ride my bike and walk.
Doing anything else is hard to schedule.
Anyone else have this situation? lol

Alice, check out "This old House" sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
The house we live in, our body, gets worn and often needs fixed. Maintenance is required to keep it in good condition.

Conversation with my mother-in-law a few years ago:
"My hearing isn't that bad, is it?" my mother-in law asked.
"No, your hearing isn't that bad," I replied.
"What?" she said.
I fell into fits of laughter. So did my husband. Our laughter was so infectious, my mother-in-law joined in. We all had tears rolling down our faces. My mother-in-law didn't have a clue why we were laughing!

"I just got this new hearing aid at the 7-11. Paid two dollars for it."
"What kind is it?"
"About three-thirty."

Thanks Shelagh for the song. Never heard that one. No pun intended.
I'll add another verse to that song: My old house is getting creakey and my legs are full of pain, I just cannot remember where I placed my crooked cane.

I think the reason people won't admit to a hearing loss is because they can blame it on noise or the other person not talking loudly enough.
You can't walk into someone's house and say, "Your walls are not painted brightly enough for me to see them"

I freely admit that my hearing is not up to par. To get a hearing aid is around 3 grand (well, that is two) but the hearing aid people will not just do one. I said, I need to hear out of my right ear and my left be damned. Cannot be done. Hearing aids are NOT covered by insurance, medicare, medicade.
I would gladly hear. My David bought me the hearing apparatus that hunters use in the woods to hear the slightest rustle or foot tread. I use it sometimes if people come over.
At first, I was surprised the number of people who talk behind your back because they know you cannot hear. Nothing mean, just kind of nanny-nanny-boo=boo sort of humor. Especially if I had misunderstood the conversation, which happens a lot to people who read lips. If the speaker turns their back, you must fill in what they probably said with your imagination.
The words what or huh cannot cross my lips because people get tired of saying everything twice. Some things really lose the impact and meaning if they have to be reiterated at a louder decible.
But, you know, I am out here by myself every day. Not a human voice to be heard for miles around. Not that I am complaining. I get used to the lack of human voice. I can hear in the silence of the woods, all.
Love, Betty

Insurance doesn't cover it because it is often self-inflicted.
Loud rock bands etc.

Dear Alice, I do not think that is why. Insurance companies do not care if your teeth fall out. Insurance companies do not care if your ears fall off. Insurance companies do not care if your wrinkles put your face in danger of dragging on the ground. People pay and pay and pay, but insurance companies almost never do for this kind of thing.
I remember when there were no insurance companies. Granted it was a while back. People went door to door to try to sell you insurance for life, for cancer, for funerals.....
Then, the government got involved and demanded that people have insurance for cars, houses, health, boats, property, flying. You name it, you have to have insurance for the probability that it might happen. Then the insurance companies do not pay up willingly.
Sometimes, I wish I lived far into the wilderness, where government has at least a trial to get there, and not deal with all the regulations. I know, I dream on.
Love, Betty

Betty,
I did not mean your hearing loss is self-inflicted.
I wondered why hearing loss is not covered. and made a stupid assumption, I won't make President of the USA-- Thank Heavens! LOL!!!!!

Betty, I understand what you're saying. I too went for a hearing checkup noticing loss in one ear. They wanted to fit me for both ears at an outrageous cost. I declined. I'm the customer. If they won't sell me what I want, then they have no sale.
I found something positive in not hearing well. Yes, people hate to repeat what they say, but often the second time they have their say it is different from the first and more truthful.
