| Joe,
Here is a laugh. I have Dusty so decided to get the second book. I paid $10.00 through Paypal and when I got to Smashwords it said my transaction failed. Odd-because Paypal said it cleared.
I will give it awhile to settle down and see what happened. |

| Very nicely done, Joe. I was interested in the "customer sets the price" thing. Let us know how that works out. I am beginning the Amazon process. There is so much that we are grateful to each other for. What a lot we have all learned since we stood there in the middle of the floor and wept tears of joy because we got the notice from PA that our book was to be published. Love, Betty |

| One thing for sure, Betty, the world did not cave in because we didn't get our rights back after two years. |

| No the world didn't cave in, and it's certainly been a learning experience. I have all of my stories and books available at both Smashwords and Amazon, and have begun using Creatspace for print copies of some of my books.
I have an independent publisher that I am very comfortable working with, and we enjoyed quite a bit of success with my memoir, The Last Of The South Town Rinky Dinks. Our next book, Neon Rainbo, will be out in about two weeks, and with the subject matter, we are expecting some decent sales with it.
Whether or not I could find a major publisher is not and has not been an issue. I decided at my age and with my health that a long drawn out process of query letter, rejection, rewrite and repeat the process wasn't what I was prepared to do. I wouldn't publishe with PA again, but I don't regret doing it the first time around, as it got me started on my current path, and I'm satisfied with what I'm doing.
I doubt that I'll ever see a best seller, and I'm not looking for thousands of dollars a month or year in royalties, but I do derive some satisfaction that I've found some readers who enjoy what I'm writing, and while I occasionally wonder if it's worth all of the time and energy, I don't have a lot of other stuff to do at this point in time anyway.
I kept the electronic rights to my PA books, and the print rights will revert back to me next year, so it's all been a plus, as far as I'm concerned. |

| Don, Age and health are influencing some of my decisions, too. Not only do I not have the constitution or inclination for the drawn-out process of traditional publishing, but I am not sure I have the time. I can see myself now, looking down from heaven (or up from elsewhere) trying to tell my survivors where the latest copy of each manuscript is. |

| Don & Al. You struck a nerve with me. Health issues have affected my writing and desire to write. I have no regrets about the things I've done and have reached the point where I don't regret the things I'm about to do. That is one benefit of getting old(er).
I'm still in Virginia and will depart in a few days. It was a good diversion from my everyday norm. I learned quickly that politics is a subject to avoid - at least not to initiate it, but I refuse to back down from my point of view(s). If someone doesn't want my opinion, don't ask, and no I won't turn a blind eye to corruption, political or other.

| I've probably written my last novel. When Mr. Planemaker's Flying Machine failed to make any significant sales, I blamed myself, not the publisher. Now that the book has reached a subtantial number (10,000+) of readers (some of whom no doubt read the book while many downloaded a copy and forgot all about it), I feel that the appeal of the book can be properly assessed. After just one week, the impact of the sequel is negligible. However, sales on amazon.co.uk of the first book have shown a slight increase.
The books should stand on their own merits irrespective of the publisher. If readers enjoyed the first, they will move on to the second. If they do not, there is no point in writing a third. I will get my life back and be able to spend more time with my family. A win-win situation. |

| How are the readers of the first Planemaker book to know that you have a second one out, though? I assume they find the first one because it's in a free area, but the second one is not. So I wouldn't write off this novel so fast. What are you doing to let those 10,000 downloaders of the first know there's a second? |

| Advertising is everything. I see Patterson book trailers on television quite often - and a few others. I even saw a Tate publication. If they are spending that kind of money to advertise books, no wonder those without the funds for max ads are less well known. |

| Yes, DK, we cannot compete with the massive marketing ploys used by commercial publishers. - LC wrote:

I have to rely on Amazon to do that. Cyber week is making it difficult for indies. Amazon are concentrating on known names to attract customers. The true test will come later. At the moment, readers who enjoyed the first book are waiting for the second to go free, but that's not going to happen. If readers want a third book, they will have to show an interest in buying the books. |

" YOU TUBE ," Reaches the world..
Cheers..Joe.. Only if you publicize your video enough Joe. With youtube you have to generate views, to get your video noticed. Some people go to companies and pay for views. One such company is : http://getmoreviews.net/. This of course is cheating and youtube has been working to counter this type of activity. Yet these companies find ways of working round the youtube system and still manage to bump up peoples viewing figures even creating comments on the videos. It really is a form of paid advertising. You can almost guarantee that those videos with high ratings have had their views doctored by one of these companies. A free site is this one: http://viewet.com/ this may be worth a try as it generates genuine views on a view mine and I'll view yours basis. |

| I have just downloaded the viewet software and it seems to run ok on my system. All it does is play videos for you to view and you get viewing credits for each one viewed these credits pay for your video to be viewed. The program also runs in the background so you don't have to actually watch the videos, it only views the first bit of each vid so it clocks up credits quite quick. I'll let you know if it makes any difference to my viewing figures for my book trailer. |
