| 11/19/2011 Since we all know authors own their copyrights, has anyone ever thought of selling their copyrights to the highest bidder ? Say starting at $25,000- with a million dollar cap ? Cheers...Joe... |

| I'm game. I'll sell my copyright to Ghost Orchid for $50,000 right now. Know any bidders? |

I thought about it being auctioned off on that site I can't remember the name, My Book " Visions Of Freedom ," And " Ghost Orchid, " would make two great films. So some producer has to bid and buy the rights, I figure bids would start in $10,000- increments.
Cheers..Joe |

| Dear Joe, That must be for people a lot more famous than you or I or Diane.
There are so many dead authors of great stories and so many animators of those stores that film people do not need to look beyond the old fiction and new animators. Think about it. The new careers are in animated commercials that look like real people are speaking. The time of the professional commercial actor is gone except for local stuff. The 'cartoons' will need voices. Voices do not have to be beautiful people, just people with beautiful voice. It is kind of like old ugly people with nice voices may get a job. hahahahaha.
Kind of a nice circle of events.
Love,
Betty

| Don't publishers also hold the right to publish, or something like that? I never got what good is a copyright if I don't also have the right to publish it. |

| Isn't the publisher's contract usually for a specific length of time? Like, mine is for seven years, which will be up in about three years from now, then the rights revert back to me.
And, since I hold a copyright, I believe I could sue over an infringement without having to go through the publisher.

| My book contracts don't state any length of time. If they're not selling well then the contract says my rights can be returned, but "not selling well" isn't quantified. In fact, one of my publishers would just put my book into POD status if it fell below a certain number.
Re suing for infringement, I have neither the time nor money for that. |

| I guess I can see where that might be a good idea for a textbook, especially at your level and in your field. It doesn't seem quite fair, though.

| My trade book is the same way, though. There's no number of years set for when the contract will expire. I never even heard of such a thing until I started reading author boards. |
