Name and Number Blues

I am not a wealthy man
I struggle with my bills
the plight of unemployment
is among my many ills.

Yet the thing that really peeves me
that puts me under stress
is the folk who make the money
from my phone and my address.

I am ex directory
my names not in the book
Yet every salesman knows me
and they didn’t have to look.

I get bombarded day and night
by phone and in the mail
from folk who think I’m interested
in what they have for sale.

These are not just random callers
they always know my name
they know so much about me
I don’t know them the same.

Someone is making money
from selling my address
they’ve sold my name and number
they’ve put me under stress.

I wish I knew sometime ago
my details are like gold.
I could have sold them by myself
if only I’d been told.

Great one David. It sums it up with the exception that they didn't give me your address or phone number.

They usually ask for my bank account number and provide me with incentives to help them transfer millions of dollars. All they want for my help is a percentage. I think I'll create a special bank account number for these people and let them transfer to their hearts content. Do you have a special account for these transfers?

And not only home phone and address that does have some connection to public records but al cell phone!!! And that costs me grief and minutes since my cell phone is still reserved for the rather important callers and I go to all the trouble of trying to answer the cell phone - to hear, "this is card services; we can lower your credit card debt..." My mom gets those calls too on her home phone. She doesn't even use a credit card. I finally had to tell her to clearly hang up on the callers. She did give out some info when one of them told her that her bank account was being closed. Grrrrrrrr
