I don’t know where this saying came from…”Good writers read a lot.” Not true.

If grammar, spelling, how to assemble words, and make the reader forget they are reading is a problem…then one should read every book they can find. Outside of that, one need not read a lot to be a good writer.

Some people may be so good that they don't need to learn from others. I'm not one of them. I am helped by reading other books and analyzing what I think makes them good or poor.

If one doesn't have the natural talent to begin with, though, I agree that no amount of reading will help that person be a writer.
