We shall never forget 911, our hearts go out to the victims
and their families for their bravery and we as Americans shall
never forget it, ever..

I've avoided speaking about it since the media has been thoroughly remembering for over a week. I think the opening of the memorial is a healing time for many. The country was changed forever and the media has presented the many ways.

Every day is a day of remembering for those most intimately involved.

Yes DK, it's a time to remember and a time for prayer.

Unfortunately, our wrong war against Iraq (to which President Bush claimed victory on a troop ship prematurely) created a whole new crop of unemployed young men hating the U.S. for using its might to demolish an already impoverished country dessimated by other wars. Imagine what we look like to a family huddled in a hovel of dust and dirt with all our fancy air and ground support. They lost their infrastructure and no amount of "reconstruction" will every produce love for the U.S. in the hearts of Iraq - regardless of words to the contrary. You can be assured that if I were in their circumstances I would feel the same hate -

What never ceases to amaze me is how quickly the U.S. citizens forget the reality of 9/11's aftermath - war against the wrong country (none of the pilots in 9/11 were from Iraq);destruction of the U.S.economy; loss of precious lives in Iraq and in the U.S. military - the list goes on. Yes,the propaganda machine is well-oiled to make us forget so much because we are still unemployed.

Diane, your comments share my thoughts.

I listened to the speeches and heard the nice words. I saw the tears of family members who lost loved ones. At the same time, I saw political posturing in some speeches. I thought about our ill-conceived knee-jerk reaction to take revenge against innocent people. The horrrendous cost in money continues to mount. The cost in human lives, nearly a million people, is still being calculated. The loss of American prestige around the world cannot be completely erased.
Will we learn from this historical event?

How would we react if the Iraqi people held a ceremony to remember America's invasion of their country and quoted the number of lives lost?

The terrorist attack on America was horrendous. Remembering the event and those who died is appropriate. At the same time, we should seek answers to prevent a future occurence. Further, we need to examine our reaction to events such as this.

Hate and revenge are primeval reactions the world over. It takes a higher order of actualization to understand that this is a global world of people living in a time when that very hate can lead to the end of the world as we know it.

It is a time when the art of diplomacy and cooperation is possible because communication is now nearly universal, instantly. It is a time to put aside those surface things as dividers and embrace instead the humanity that binds us. It is a time to release hates and prejudices, bigotry and bias. It has to start somewhere. The most economically evolved nations have the luxury of higher order thinking; they are not struggling to exist. We have a responsibility to the world.

This obligation requires first that we start with our own heart, own own family, our own community.
