Gay Kids at Risk! Empty

I have learned some things from watching the news.

Gay kids are twice as likely to kill themselves as their straight counterparts.

I feel for teachers--they are caught between a rock and a hard spot.

The parents want no mention of it at school.

Why can't they at least say, "People are people! Please respect them all."

Alice..

.... Gay Kids at Risk! 973110

Parents should be more compassionate towards
their children ! Where I used to work the manager of
the store, he was a Mr. Macho , he always bragged
how he got his boys into sports and how they better
be a winner ! I told him this was wrong, he said they
were becoming little stud masters.. From what he told
me about his growing up, his father was the same way.
He always hired young women with very low cut blouses,
big boobs, tight skirts and stilettos . If his wife only knew
what kind of creep he is.. My conclusion about him is I
think he was questioning his own manhood ?

Cheers..Joe.. Very Happy

Homophobia is a serious problem. And phobia is fear, which leads to
hatred and hate crimes. No wonder the young people with gender
differences feel so hopeless.

There is a first rate little Australian film from the mid-nineties called The Sum of Us that
does a beautiful job of changing people's attitudes through
understanding, and does it with a poignant humor that is entertaining at
the same time. You cannot help but care about these characters.

It is available free, even, on YouTube:

I was director at a school that taught every type of student and we had a policy of acceptance, taught acceptance and rewarded acceptance; yet, students bullied each other off campus for every reason including homosexuality, boys and girls. There were students who stood up to the bullies and supported their fellow students also without respect to their own orientation.

I don't know the answer. Students in the ages twelve through 20 have confusing messages from their bodies and brain chemistry anyway. The best that can be done is parents to whom they can talk about their questions and not be condemned but rather be understood. That's a tall order for people who have their own baggage.

Suicide itself is difficult for me to comprehend except as an alternative to something more horrid. Their pain must be intense.

The poor kids and parents--as if they don't have enough to worry about.
