| "Incident at Bandera Pass," the first in a series of short stories about the characters of the Redstone Trilogy novels is now available to download in PDF format.

If you read this in the WIP section, you might notice that there have been several revisions.
For more on the trilogy, see this page:

| I just made a comment about the old Amazon Shorts days. That was a time when we could highlight characters from our novels. |

| You should add the story to Kindle, Ann:

| Thank you, Shelagh. I've been meaning to ask how to go about it.. I've been more involved in getting the first novel ready for CreateSpace, lately (Still a way to go), but I will check out the link.
Thanks again.

| Ann, many times I didn't like your attitude towards romance and other novels, but I read your download and not wanting to, liked it. So I'm paying you a high complament, from me to you, when I say I'd like to read more. |

| That's quite a compliment. I had one sort of like that from another forum author who was sure he would not like my novel, Ghost Orchid, and put off reading it. Then, against his will, he gave it a very positive review. Nothing like winning over a reader who has doubts... |

Right now, I'm focused on getting the first novel ready, lyntx, but I expect to add more stories as they come up in my head. One possibility is a love story: Jake will meet a young German girl when that town is first settled, and their story might be a good one to include. Ann

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I should turn Daniel's flashback to his vision quest into a third-person freebie, and maybe put less of it into the novel as backstory. That would be the best way to introduce the fantasy part. Ann |

| Ann, You share the print/e-book rights to your story in Forever Travels. You could upload From Belfast to St Joe to Kindle. The anthology is on offer at 99c until the end of July, if anyone would be interested in reading another of Ann's stories (and you would receive eighteen more stories to read!): http://www.amazon.com/Forever-Travels-ebook/dp/B004OA6F6U/ |

| Thank you, Shelagh. That's a good idea.
I've opened an account at CreateSpace, and have been re-reading the link you posted the other day.
As I get older, doing new things takes more thought process and time to figure out, but I'm slowly getting there, and will be fine once I have it down.
One of the things I cannot find is how to go about offering something free.
I realize it's probably a dumb question, but I find that I have problems finding things and figuring out processes on Amazon.
Barnes and Noble has a similar service, it seems, and more user-friendly from what I've read so far. I wonder if it would draw as many readers.

| Ann,
I started on Kindle at the beginning of the year. In June, I made more than twice as much in royalties as I did throughout February to the end of May. The process starts slow and the sales are single sales peppered throughout the months. When two of my books were offered as free downloads, sales picked up. Compared to other authors, my success is very small -- but I can see how it the system works. You would have to learn the same as I did but, eventually, you would have a grip on how this process works.
E. Don is ideally set up to make a great deal of money. He just needs a bit of luck. Even if he doesn't get lucky, he should be able to make more money than he is doing presently (his sales are greater than my first four months, so doubling his royalties in a month will produce much more profit for him than it did for me). If Don works hard at building a fan base, he has about twenty books he can use in his marketing strategy. Readers like to be able to move rapidly from one story/novel to the next. Established authors with a backlist of out-of-print books are finding new readers for these books and making far more money second time around than they did the first time (readers had to wait for the new books to be written and published, now they can download books one after another, click, click, click). Don just needs to learn how, and the sales should start to take off. |
