Well, I finally stumbled onto a setting I could change. Now, your avatars don't look like they are underwater--the ripples are gone!

It seems there is a setting that regulates the download speed and if you have it go too fast, graphics are distorted but the text comes through fine. Don't know if I could find it again, but I got lucky this time!

Congrats on conquering Vista success!! 748523 the evil Vista!

With any luck, I'll never have to use that operating system (I still have win XP Pro); but, I still have evil Evil or Very Mad dial-up... Vista success!! 594595

I used to have the evil dial-up internet service too. I got DSL about a year and a half ago and it's much better (faster and more reliable). All my dial-up internet service ever did was disconnect. It was so sickning, every time I wanted to browse the internet I had to put up with constant disconnects. Dial-up is evil!!! Twisted Evil

I am getting older and slower, but I got nothing on dial-up! However, I am too cheap to pay for DSL, which all that is available out here in the sticks. And I have heard horrible tales about the problems a few neighbors had trying to use DSL. So, I shall have to be patient with my dial up and wait until I move, I guess.

Actually, my DSL service costs about the same as my dial-up service did. Very Happy

Doesn't it seem weird that the latest, improved version of a popular appliance would create a situation in which people rejoice after much trouble that they can just USE the damned thing?

I refuse to use it. Vista success!! 971369

I'll stick with Win XP Pro until the next version after Vista; then I'll decide if I'll use it or not. Vista success!! 973110

I've already bought a couple of XP Pro CD's, 'cause it's going to be discontinued.

Melinda you were lucky to find the CDs from what I have heard; they are becoming like old books--rare and expensive Very Happy

I have been very happy with my Vista computer, although my needs are pretty simple. A little net surfing, some web design, hanging out here, and typing typing typing. Vista success!! 733985

There' s computer guy from Atlanta, GA who sets up at the Evansville, IN Flea Market once a month. He had brand new unopened CD's of '95 & '98 for $20 each; he promised to bring me new unopened CD's of Win XP in July. cheers

My problem was an I D ten T error. Not too difficult to correct. We'll see if I have other problems crop up!
