Your In-laws? Empty
PostSubject: Your In-laws?   Your In-laws? EmptySun Apr 03, 2011 2:22 pm

Do you like your in-laws?
I do.
My sister-in-law is funny and inventive.
My mother-in-law is very caring.
My daughter-in-law and son-in-law are like my own kids, to me.

How about your in-laws?
I hope I didn't open a kettle of worms, or if I did, it might prove interesting.

PostSubject: Re: Your In-laws?   Your In-laws? EmptySun Apr 03, 2011 3:12 pm

Focusing on my children's spouses.

First came Chris. Lynn had been dating his younger brother; they split amicably, and Todd encouraged his older brother to meet this person who was just right for him. It was the wisest thing Todd ever did. Chris loves my daughter and puts up with her mother most admirably. He is a modern husband who cares as much for his wife's need for a career as he does about his own, and shares in the household duties. Trained as a musician, he switched careers about 8 years ago, and now manages the shows he once participated in. When I asked him about it, he said he didn't know if he would enjoy the management end if it didn't involve supervising performances.

Next came Lyn with one "n" to differentiate her from my daughter. Her full name is Lynann Elizabeth. Elizabeth is my younger daughter's middle name. When Dave first told me about his new girlfriend and her familiar name, I told him it was a sign that the match was made in Heaven, or he'd better run like Hell, and I wasn't sure which. Thankfully, he didn't run. This mother of my only grandchild is as intelligent as she is pretty, and as friendly and warm as anyone I could imagine. She is a music professor at the same university where Dave teaches math and physics.

I do not know Jimmy, Susan's husband, as well as I know the others, at least not yet, but I like what I know, and am getting to know him better all the time, even though they recently moved to Colorado. He is a former career Navy man, a cancer survivor, an Iraq vet, and a lover of big dogs. Very big dogs, which are also very gentle and loving dogs. He loves Susan and is not afraid to say so on Facebook, even to his military buddies. That, above all else, makes him a hero in my book. (And he liked reading my published book, which, as most of you know, is about a military hero, and recommends it to his friends.)

They couldn't have done better if they had allowed me to choose.

I had two mother-in-laws. The real mother was much easier to deal with than the step one.

We had many good times, even with the step mother--always remained on speaking terms.

I've had two mother-in-laws, and one step mother in law. Each, in there own way had many wonderful things about them and strength they offered to my children, their grandchildren. Two have since passed away, and the relationship with the step mom-in-law is very tough to maintain given hard feelings over divorces and stuff.

Now my future son-in-law is lovely. He is a great dad to my granddaughter, and an excellent partner to my daughter. He comes from a big family who really treasure things like family and have made things very easy for us to meet, greet and eat together. I'm really enjoying all of them!

My mother and father-in-law are both dead. No, I didn't kill them. My mother-in-law was my greatest fan. As for my brother-in-law, I see him as an out-law and a carbon copy of his father. Never did hit it off.

My immediate family is my center of existence. Love is the bonding that holds us together.

The one that died was my sister's husband. He was a good man.
The one that is still living is my wife's brother. No comment on this one.

Your daughter-in-law is very pretty, Alice! I can see the line of tractors coming up the first fairway to get it ready for your two guys! What an honour!
