Let's see, why do I right ? First to keep my sanity ! Just
joking...I have a very vivid imagination. Now that I dropped
the kids book, I may do a biography, something juicy... I
wouldn't mind writing books like LC, but I never know what
kind of technical books they are ? Does anyone know ? LC ?

Cheers..Joe

Alice's "You are too funny," and Joe's "Just joking" have me thinking I need to bring this respnse back up.

I wasn't joking. Writing keeps me sane.

I once had a poster in my classroom that said, "How do I know what I think until I see what I say?"

Using writing to stay sane is kind of like that.

Many of those here have talked about how the story often gets away from them, and begins to write itself.

Telling stories, reporting our experiences, writing about what we are learning are all ways of getting to know who we are and why we are here, are ways of pulling all the stuff hidden in our unconscious minds out into the open light of day so we can come to terms with it.

Jung told of our collective unconscious, the underlying connections we all have to each other that shows up in our myths and dreams. It is also active in our storytelling. Other people identify with our stories because they feel the connection to their own experiences.

Writing is serious business. How would any of us survive without it?

Just me.

Ann,
your thoughts about the written word are good, you might also add, theraputic. With my first novel, getting my experience down on paper helped me distance myself from things that continued to bother me. And seeing what I wrote from a distance, helped to put things in perspective.

Abe,

Writing is good therapy. So is reading.

My former sister-in-law called and thanked me for wrting my book. She said she laughed or cried all the way through it. That made the book worthwhile to me. She felt exonerated.

I would like to address reading.
Reading, to me, is my connection to an other mind... that sounds so grand, but really it is like reading a letter from someone who is telling you what their life moments are, or their mind's eye can see or imagine, what stories they can see that flow with every detail, and understand it all with your own understanding and vision.

Love,
Betty
