| The crop circles thread makes me wonder if there will be a government cover-up when the first Earth-like planet (i.e. my "New Earth") is one day discovered circling one of the two principal stars of Alpha Centauri:

I think it unlikely

| Ah, but such ideas are the stuff of good fiction, are they not? As long as one can suspend ones disbelief.

| Very true, Ann This morning it's freezingly cold here and they predict snow for us by tomorrow. These wonders of the universe make me think about an old song by Paul Simon, lyrics go: These are the days of miracle and wonder. This is a long distance call... |

| And if that New Earth does in fact materialise as a reality, the scientific hurdles dictate it may be *only* 50,000 years away! http://firstarktoalphacentauri.wikia.com/wiki/Alpha_Centauri_kinematics |

| It sure is a long distance from Alpha Centauri. When we get a form of anti gravity propulsion we may be able to bend time and shorten the time it takes to get there.
It is already snowing here in south of England at 14:00 GMT. Bookies will be lowering the odds on a white christmas. |

| My 50,000 year long voyage duration is an optimum balance between two constraints: Propulsion, governed by Tsiolkovsky's rocket equation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rocket_equation And the myriads of uncharted debris in the intervening space between us and Alpha Centauri, starting with the Kuiper belt in our Solar System's backyard: |

| The Kuiper Belt looks like a huge snow tire without the treads.
We've been dumped on with snow for the past two days. It started raining a short while ago and it will most likely melt.
I sang, "White Christmas" at our Christmas concert and it may come true. For me, the ideal Christmas is snow falling on Christmas Eve, and taking a walk in it. Hearing the snow crunching under the feat, then going home for something hot to drink. A Gluhwein or a good Schnapps can provide warmth. Also a hug from Maid Marion would suffice, provided she is sufficiently thawed out. |
