| I liked the one where the cat was sprawled out dead on the floor. |

| Yes, but I was hoping something would happen so it would fall in. Well, maybe not really. |

That's the first book that came to mind when I saw this thread and thought of you, Dick. Ann |

| I had a cat when I was 14. It gave birth to six kittens. Three of them were striped tabbys and they were all extremely gorgeous. When we had to give them all away because we didn't have space in the house, I became really heart broken.
The pain was too much for me to bear and I never wanted another cat as a pet ever again. Never... |

That cat looks like our daughter's cat--it even sleeps like that. People have been bringing food to the house and I watched as the cat sniffed some cookies. I made a mental note to not eat the top one. When Dave offered me a cookie, I said, " Don't give me the top one. The cat sniffed it." "Thanks," he replied , "I just ate it." |

| Dear Alice, I wonder about the bringing of food to the house. Out here, it is a gathering of people who bring food in sad, sad times. They mean it as a comfort and it probably is. I have never prayed well in words. I always hoped that just the longing and the wishing counted in some way. I have never noticed that it changed much. I also know that we do not ever see the ends of our thoughts. They are just the ignition of distant fires. That is as it should be. Love, Betty |

| Dear Betty,
The food is to cheer everyone up. Evidently everything will be all right because he is under 45.
Hope springs eternal: First off only 1% of bumps were cancer. Somehow he got into the 1% category.
Then the cancer never spread beyond the thyroid. Somehow it managed to. I am becoming a bit jaded.
Time will tell. The food is a very pleasant diversion. |
