Lemon, Lime, Florida Empty
PostSubject: Lemon, Lime, Florida   Lemon, Lime, Florida EmptySat Jan 02, 2010 4:17 pm

Tonight we have hunkered down. Funny term. We have covered the lemon, and the key lime and put work lights under. This lovely place that I live has so much beauty, sustains so much life, gives so much joy to so many people and so many little animals.

My brick patio has impatiens, cassandra's, little things that make me happy. I have tried to save them from this week of freeze. My hibiscus' are a grafted thing. 10 different blooms on one plant.

I imagine that you who live in the snow do not have these kinds of plants and life is a little more decided. No one must go out and try to save the christmas cactus or the orchid.

Tonight we will water the strawberries to create an ice shield. The tomatoes, too. I wonder if you could do that up there in the north should you grow a tomato.

Love,
Betty

Hi Betty..Lemon, Lime, Florida Icon_biggrin

Good for you, you have the cirtus covered. I
have grown a lot of tropical plants, indoors in the
winter, outdoors in late Spring. The problem here is
the sun is very strong in the summer because of the
altitude....So I try to keep plants in an area where it
gets part sun during the day, late aftrenoon the sun
goes to the middle of the garden. I don't know if you
can plant a Butterfly bush in Fl., they are awesome ,I
planted one mid summer, loads of lavendar flowers
they attract butterflies and bees....I love to put in
hanging baskets Ivy geraniums, in large pots large
flowering geraniums. In the spring I'm going to order
from One Green World : http://onegreenworld.com
a Seville Orange and another Calamondin orange tree.
One of my favorite nurserys is Logees in Conn., they
have an awesome nursery ten greenhouses, I use to
go their when I lived in NY, I drove 2.5 hrs to get
there, here's their site: http://www.logees.com
When ever I move back East I'm going to need a truck
I would move upstate not the city anymore too
expensive. Check out those site...
