No, I am not speaking of Alice!

I have become familiar with most of the birds who make my area their home. In fact, I am going broke feeding them(finch seed is not cheap)!!

We have flickers here, cousins to the woodpecker, and they are very colorful, but do not have red heads. Woodpeckers are not native to this area, but there is one that doesn't seem to know that.

Not only does he not know he doesn't belong here, he doesn't know he is supposed to peck on wood. He raps out a loud tattoo on the signs and other metal objects that are here, raising quite a ruccus even though they are not close to the house. I keep waiting for him to pound his beak into a bloody stub!

At least it is a semi-pleasant alarm clock.

Zada,

Be glad he doesn't know he is supposed to peck on wood.

One of the more "enlightened" sort pecked a hole in our neigihbor's house.

Alice, I feel sorry for him. I am certain he will go hungry, since the signs offer him no food.

That is strange. Are you sure it is an American bird? Americans don't do crazy stuff, or?scratch

Very funny, Abe. Laughing I don't know just how far one of them can fly. Across the ocean, maybe?

Dear Zada,
I remember Woody Woodpecker pecking on lots of stuff that were not trees. I wonder if you have a renegade pecker of the type that has a lot of fun for himself going willy nilly around and sounding out the drums. I believe that music is being made in your neck of the woods. Perhaps you could listen for some of the other birds joining in the chorus. I wonder if you started to tap out a drumming tune if the whole of the woods would smile and the concert would begin.
I wish I were there with you. We would do it together, laugh our buts off, in tune of course.

Love,
Betty

Dear Betty, do you suppose it is a mating call? Maybe his name is Ringo! So far, he is not getting answers. Sad

If you were here, we definitely would be doing a lot of laughing!!
