Suppose we put the ant of this size:

Now when the ant bites the mouse... the mouse will not only show a reaction from the sting, it may even squeal!

So far, all the extrasolar planets have been discovered from the tiny gravitational influence ('bites' if you like) they inflict on tiny red dwarf stars around which they circle. Much like the ant and the mouse scenario I just described. It was possible to detect their presence, because the ratio between the mass of the planet and the mass of the star was not too excessive, and not beyond reason.

For a tiny Earth sized planet to inflict such an influence on one of the two hugely massive suns of Alpha Centauri, and for us to be able to measure it, is much like the ant biting the gargantuan sized elephant that I described earlier on page 1 of this thread. It just may not be possible to detect the elephant's reaction!

We may need a masking technique, such as what I proposed at the start of this thread in my paper.

I read the following in the book "The Planets" by Dava Sobel. It reminded me of you.

"Sometimes the stupefying view into deep space can send me burrowing into the warm safety of Earth's nest. But just as often I feel the Universe pull me by the heart, offering, in all its other Earths elsewhere, some larger community to belong to."
