This is my dad:

Dads Dad110_800x600

My dad is sitting in front of a window that looks out across a field. In the distance, there is a farmhouse. His mother was born there in 1897. She was one of twelve children and died at the age of thirty-six.

How close did your father remain to his roots?

Shelagh,

He is beautiful.

My father's father was from Squirrel's Heath, England.

Our cabin is on Squirrel Lake in Wisconsin. After purchasing the land my mother told me my father's family vacationed on that lake. This is supposedly the area in the world with the most lakes.

I am going to write in a book someday that my grandfather remembered his roots in Squirrel's Heath by renting a cottage on Squirrel Lake, and drew us there in some magical way, through angels or spiritual beings.

I have visited Squirrel's Heath in England.

Shelagh,

Nice picture.Your dad looks like a good guy.

My dad was born in 1902 in Middleton , Arkansas.

When he was a small boy, the family migrated North. They were in Arizona when a well accident took the lives of his grandfather and uncle.
The two were overcome by gas and died.

The family ended up near North Bend, WA on 140 acres of forest land.
It is there that I grew up.

My father was a wonderful man.

He was my friend.

My father was born in a small town in Iowa in 1903, but he moved west to Washington, Colorado and California and that became the part of the country he most often celebrated in his books and poems.

My dad and I were never very close until the last eight years of his life. These last eight years were my fondest memories of him.

He was born in southeast Missouri and never really got too far away. He was living in Texas the last eight years of his life and was buried where he was born in Missouri.

God bless!

A fine looking man I haven't come up with a response to Shelagh's second post, but I'm thinking.

My father, a super salesman and somewhat of a con man because the two things go hand in hand, was born in Chicago and lived there until he was about 20. Other than driving through it, he never went back there again except when we were living in a car and he applied for a job in Chicago. I have a lot of his traits but don't resemble him.

Nice photo of your Dad. He looks like quite the gentleman. As far as you two looking alike I would have to see a photo of him when he had hair.

Shelagh, I have to agree your good looks come from your parents and you do look much like your dad.

My dad came to England from Bangladesh long many years before I was born there. He went back and forth every few years and he was really happy when we came over eventually (me, my mum and my sisters).

My dad wasn't afraid of anything or anybody. He would say what he felt and he didn't give a rat's ass if anybody liked him or not. My mum wishes I was more like him...

Dad's are very special. I've been talking about mine on other threads, so I'll just say this is a neat thread.

Dear Shelagh,
I like the looks of your dad. He has kind and gentle eyes. You must have his heart. Hearts are hard to hide. The eyes always let them shine out.

Ahad, you must be more like your dad than your mom knows. I consider you are fearless, kind, and rare.

I will not talk about my dad here. He was a mean, foul man.

I will tell you about my foster dad. His name was George Ivy Anderson. He wore a safari hat all of his days. When he died, many people fought to own that hat as a memory of his kind heart and life. His life touched many. He never knew that he was a rare person. He was a farmer of cotton and soybeans. He went about his day doing what he did every day, working and planting in the Arizona desert.

He had the ability to love a child that was not his own. He did it very well. I am so very proud to have known him and so lucky that he loved me. He is alive in Wooffer.

Love,
Betty
