Pre-selling an E-Book Empty
PostSubject: Pre-selling an E-Book   Pre-selling an E-Book EmptyMon Jan 26, 2009 8:21 am

Forgive my inexperience. I am a new author publishing through BookSurge. My book is projected to be available for purchase via Amazon and then others in two weeks. I have an ISBN number and a PDF of my book stating copyright. Is there anything wrong with pre-selling an e-book on my own website or other websites before the book has reached market on Amazon?

Thank you, Mike Perry Pre-selling an E-Book 78793

I see no problem. It's done in many fields.

What I would probably do is offer a slight discount to "early birds". Take their orders, ship when available.

As long as they know it will not be instantly fulfilled. Although a backorder notice from a catalog is legal and accepted as well, and what's the difference.

One thing... I don't know who you're publishing it with, but it's very possible the thing is available for your order sooner than it gets on amazon

Ah, in that case you can't ship it yourself until it's on amazon, right?

But you can take pre-orders.

Yes that is true. It's only a couple of weeks so likely by the time I have my website fully functioning it will be available on Amazon. On a different but related subject I've read on this site differing opinions in regard to selling an easily copied and emailed version of your work. Has anyone tried the Clicklocker software? I'm leaning toward selling an encrypted PDF with Clicklocker security. Anyone care to share their opinion or experiences on that subject and offer reasons I should change my mind? Smile

Thank you, Mike
