Happy Birthday Abe!

Yesterday was Abe's 70th birthday!



This is a day late, Abe, but I hope you had a wonderful day! All the best for 2009 and I hope your latest book is a tremendous success!

I should have known you wouldn't forget.
I was very surprised by all the good wishes from the townsfolk. People stopped by extending their good wishes and presenting gifts: wine, champagne, schnapps, freshly baked cake, boxes of candy, etc. The biggest surprise when I answered the doorbell was a serenade with harmonica and accordion, singing happy birthday. It was snowing and cold and all were invited inside for a glass of champagne and other goodies. That led to more singing of folk songs. The big celebration will be on Saturday night with entertainment. The Mayor will also be there.
Reaching the 70th birthday is a milestone and they make a big deal out
of it. I’m not complaining, just doing a lot of smiling. The toasting part keeps the smile.

Wish you could all join in the festivities on Saturday. Open bar, full buffet, dessert. Tempted yet?

Happy 70th, Abe. Still just a kid, huh? The Saturday party sounds like great fun. I'd hop a plane and be there but the weather has them all grounded. Ask them to sing EIN HELLER UND EIN BATZEN just for me.

The party fare, as good as it sounds, is less tempting than an opportunity to sit down in a face-to-face discussion with you, Abe.

Congratulations, Abe. I wish I could join the Saturday celebration, and feel priveleged just to have been invited. Have a great time, and 'HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY!' A milestone to be sure, no matter where you are. Enjoy the party, and know there are many who can't attend, but are wishing you the best.

thanks to all of you for your kind words and it certainly would be nice having you all here.
Dick says I'm still a youngster. I guess I'll just look up to him as an older brother, if that's permissible. Concerning that song, if we can't sing it we'll drink it.

Not far behind you my friend. Congratulations on living another year, and may you take the next one one great day at a time. Try to laugh out loud at least once a day, and don't let the sun go down on a single day without learning at least one new thing. That's the only way we old folks can stay one step ahead of all the youngsters here.

You know you have this whole attitude of living going on.....that is the way my grands would say it. I think about your songs, and about how my David is trying to play music, how I am trying to play music and I think our hearts connect in a backward way....I mean that I know nothing, David knows nothing, but we try to play what is in our hearts and what our brains will allow our fingers to do. We do have fun trying.

Happy day of your birth. I am glad that you have friends and that they know how to celebrate a great man's birthday. Do not freeze your butt off in the snow.

Here, we will not have snow, but 31 degrees is a monster for me. Up most of this night, I wll be.

I find it amazing that ice can save your crop and keep the temperature from going below 32 even if it should go down to 0. The ice maintains that 32 degree and the rest be damned

Betty, so long as we remain true to our hearts, they will always tell us what music we should play. I have had a song in my heart since the day I was born, and it's very apparent that so have you.

What you said means a lot to me, and at this particular point in time, I think it was just what I needed to hear. Although you may not understand this, I thank you more than I can say.

An artist's heart is always brimming over or filling voids. May the coming years be the best yet - for your birthdays - and the new days on the horizon.
