One of my father's shirts. He died early in 1971.

You wear kilts? Not the way some men do, I presume. You had quite a head of hair back then. Still beautiful, of course, as a wise man says to stay out of trouble.

Shelagh, your pic helps to realize the wearing power of wool - one of the few fabrics that really hangs on! I haven't got any old things I am still wearing, although I do have a couple of tartan vests that an aunt made for my kids when they were little. I am hanging on to them for grandkids. Do you suppose that's a lot to ask for?? pirate

I wore an oldie today - a long A-line sweater that, when I was younger, might have considered wearing as a dress. These days, I wear it with matching slacks. It's a dark wine color, which is one of the reasons I chose it. Had I spilled my crockpot of chili, which I was taking to my daughter's, the sweater was, at least, the same color. The chili made it safely, BTW. My car and vintage sweater are both fine, thanks to Rhett for posting her cheese soup story. I packed it very carefully, although not in a water bottle.

I envy that you're the same size after twenty-five years. I can't even wear clothes from five years ago, much less twenty-five.

I have lots of old clothes, but don't think any are 25 years old, but time does fly.

I have a box in my basement of "Sentimental Clothes." Some belonged to my children, some I sewed or embroidered. When my children were teenagers, I made down ski clothing from kits. The boys jackets wore out long ago, but in the back of my closet here in the northwoods is my daughter's yellow ski jacket. I have no idea how it got here or why it is here, but it is a reminder of times past, both good and bad.

I wore a dark wine coloured trouser suit when I got married in 1996, and that's still around. It's not worn much, as I'm not much of a formal dresser, but it still fits.

The oldest piece of clothing I have, however, is a Japanese happi jacket that my grandmother bought for me when I was 15 years old. So that would be 24 years ago.

Reminds me that my only decent pair of shoes was worn out in 1972. Didn't buy a new pair until 1975 because I didn't think I'd live long enough to wear them out. So far I haven't.

I had a pair of shoes that I liked so much that I wore them and wore them, until the rainy day I wondered why my feet seemed wet. I had worn a hole in the bottom. Remember when we could get such shoes resoled?

Shelagh, I suspect that you will still be fitting your kilts in another 25 years! Long ago I let go of anything that I hadn't worn in a year. I'm afraid I still do that and have nothing more that a year or two old.

I like old things as well. That includes old houses, old cars, old clothes and old (simpler) ways of living. There are exceptions of course. That's where dreams come in handy.Embarassed

I am the keeper of the family archives. One day they all became photos on a CD. I could just imagine my kids selling the 150 year old plates at a garage sale and they needed some explanations. A cedar chest holds the oldest and finest, like my mother's wedding dress and the jacket my grandmother made me when I was very little.

I have many old things. Books, my grandmother's barrister bookcase, old glassware from family members now gone, pictures faded with time, and of course, many old books.

Some old family pictures and journals I have passed to my daughter who is childless with the understanding that she will pass them on to my sister, who can then pass them to her children.

At times, I think I have been living in a family museum. Contemplating a move actoss the nation, I am filtering through and giving things to those family members who can appreciate them.

Zada, you must buy a lot of new clothes. If my closet received the same treatment as yours I would be arrested for indecent exposure. I still refer to a shirt I bought in 1987 as my "new shirt."

The only thing I wear consistently the same is my hair...

The clothes, I take to charity twice a year. Have to, or I wouldn't have any space in the small closets. When I switch the cold or warm weather clothing, I remove pieces I no longer wear.

That way...room for the new! And, no, I'm no clothes horse. Most of my stuff I find on sale.

Oh...only one old piece--one of my Dad's flannel shirts. It has a tip in the pocket and is soft and warm.

Me too. My home is filled with old things, and I live in a building built in 1850. I have one foot in the past. The other one just barely clings on to the present.

They don't make anything like they used to.

No Dick. I wear my stuff out. I used to keep fat clothes and skinny clothes and decided that was self defeating. So now, I pick up a piece of clothing now and then, and either toss the old (when it's worn out) or give it away. I need the closet space for more valuable 'old' things.
