Ann, the marinade sounds great. I always use sage for chicken and pork. I keep saying I will grow some, but never seem to have any luck with it. I think I shall next try to grow an herb 'tub' with sage, etc. in it on my porch.

| Shelagh, I put lots of sage in my Thanksgiving stuffing. I think it is the same stuffing that has been at all the Thanksgivings I have ever attended in my life. I think my third cousin, part of my childhood extended family, probably had this same stuffing where she lives in Georgia.
Zada, I remember recently that some Native Americans wanted to smudge in dorm rooms at a university. The university had a no smoking rule in their dorm rooms.
Ann, again I am glad to have you here. I like your wisdom.
Alice, you are really making this place more lively.

Zada and Carol, I made my grandmother's cornbread stuffing for years (with sage, of course), but I've recently started a new traditional Thanksgiving turkey recipe and menu. I stuff the bird with quartered oranges, halved garlic buds (yes, whole buds, not just cloves), and sprigs of sage. I loosen the breast skin and spread a layer of herbed goat cheese between the skin and breast, and replace the roaster's rack with a layer of leeks and carrots. The juices go into an Orange-Sage gravy. It's part of a dinner menu from Real Simple magazine that I read about a few years ago. The recipe, and the whole menu can be found now at www.realsimple.com Search for the "Less Mess, Less Stress Thanksgiving." Now that my children are grown, I've found that the new recipes help cut down on that holiday tension we, like many families, tend to experience during the season. Ann

Ann, that turkey recipe sounds delicious! I shall have to try it one of these days. Carol, the treatment center where I worked also had a no smoking policy. Being specifically for Native AMerican individuals, the smudging was always done outside except when one of the churches would come through once a year to smudge the house. On that one day, all of the smoke alarms were disabled during the ceremony. Alice, you can keep your neurontin--I have seen the effects!!

I'm laughing. I just read the recent posts and tried to figure out how three magic words wound up with the discussion of food. Are your three magic words, I like food, I like chocolate. We all know that Dick's would be, I like broccoli. This thread may wind up like one of Pier's, eh Alice?

Abe, I blew it. I hijacked your thread. Can I blame it on the sage, or do I just have to swallow it?? The only problem with working at Sylvan is that I always have to go to work as the fun starts. Please don't talk about me when I'm gone. Ann

Ah you guys have given me such a great laugh today. I came home from work and did all the usual stuff and finally got on here and it is after 9:30 PM and this thread has been a real treat. So no need for my sage advice because Shelagh you were brilliant on the whole sage thing (Zada I had some of that stuff in my garden - it smells really yummy) -- and I do tend to add oodles of it to poultry, although I am really keen to pick up the new turkey recipe. So, just three words (in Abe's honour) -- almost bringing this thread back to where it started...sort of...live, love, laugh.
